Quick question!
Why was it necessary for Christ to raise from the dead?

Short answer:

Romans 6:4
We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

Also, it shows that God has accepted Jesus death as payment for sin. It demonstrates Jesus' victory over death. It proves that Jesus has been made Judge of the Universe.

In short, it tells us that Jesus is Lord.

Also, consider that there were others who had claimed to be the messiah. All of them died, none were raised. Jesus issued the proclaimation of the forgiveness of sins, then backed it up by rising from the dead. He backed up His claims while all false messiahs couldn't.

Yep, I am! Although there seems to be an obsession with Calvin in here - lets start talking about the Bible more! I'm not saying he isnt worth talking about obviously, but almost every thread on here is about him - surely there is more to being a reformed Presbyterian evangelist than that?! (I know you arent all Presb's, I was just using my own way as an example!)

I think we have a tendency to focus on Calvinistic distinctives, when they are not necessarily central. We can all do a lot better in this area.

1 Cor 15 sez the resurrection is so essential that without it we might as well forget all this walkin with Christ bizness & go home & get drunk.
