As I'm sure most of you who post regularly in this forum know the Restoration Movement includes the Churches of Christ, the Independent Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, and the International Churches of Christ (ICOC). Are all of these groups pretty equally represented here or are more posters representative of just one of these groups? Thanks.

I suspect the bulk of posters come from the first 3 groups, the last one (ICOC, ICC, SODM, or "Kip's Church") being a full-on cult that has disavowed any association with the first three (thankfully) and, to my knowledge, hasn't posted much, if at all, here.

As it stands now, you'd be hard pressed to find any of us from the Restoration Movement. I suppose there's me, and also about 2 or 3 other individuals here and there out of the thousands of people here on CF.

What is United Church of Christ?

That's another denomination that isn't affiliated with the Restoration Movement churches as far as I know. See the link below. And, the Churches of Christ of the Restoration Movement are actually much more conservative than the United Church of Christ churches.

The United Churches of Christ have no relationship with the Restoration Movement Churches of Christ. The Churches of Christ/Restoration would see the United Churches of Christ as very ecumenical - very inclusive and not too concerned about your former affiliations, should you have any. A friend of mine used to be in the United Churches of Christ and even attended one of their universities. He told me years ago that they performed sprinkling as their favored form of baptism. No Restoration Movement congregations would agree with that and they would claim that such baptism has no meaning at all and would not count as one of the five steps (five fingers) of salvation. Hear-Believe-Confess-Repent-Be baptized by immersion.

A whole 'nother animal altogether. The UCC is a merger of the old Congregationalist churches in New England and a Lutheran/Reformed denomination of German origin in the Midwest.

However, the UCC is in "covenant partnership" with the Disciples of Christ, the more liberal branch of the Restoration Movement. Many DOC ministers hold "dual standing" ordination in the UCC, and vice versa, so there's a lot of back-and-forth between the two. The effect of this is a weakening of the DOC's teachings on believer's baptism, as the UCC holds to infant baptism.

I like your avatar

I love raccoons. These raccoons are Charismatic as you can tell. Tonight I sat on my sofa with the door open to the deck and three raccoons came in to munch on some food I put on the floor. One decided to roam. I had to get him off the chair as he was headed for some breakables. LOL

Within the first group there are two major sub-groups and a few smaller ones.

The main sub-groups are the "mainline" ones (these are the ones that the average person thinks when they think Church of Christ) and the "non-institutional" ones (they do not believe in supporting colleges, orphans homes, etc. or joining with other Churches of Christ in doing so, and also do not have fellowship halls or the like).

The smaller sub-groups include some that actually are using instrumental music (I can name at least four churches in DFW who do so), and the one-cup/no Sunday School/no single preacher groups (I use the slash as they are separate groups but tend to overlap considerably; the one in my area is one-cup/no Sunday School but has a main preacher on Sundays).

I don't understand something. Don't all churches believe they are promoting authentic Christianity? Didn't Luther and Anglicans claim they were reestablishing original Christianity? And of course the Catholic and Orthodox Church claim it as well....Even Mormons clsim that was what Joseph Smith was doing, and so do the Jehovah's Witnesses!

I heard that the IOCC is bad news and is not like the COC but doesn't outright say on their church buildings that they are IOCC instead and that we have to be careful to make note of that - I also heard that there is a way to be able to tell if a particular COC-appearing church is actually an IOCC in disguise, and I used to remember what the clue was, but I forgot now.
