  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hmm...

I don't think I can answer, because my respect isn't based on the title they hold, or their chosen job profession.

Take Doctor, for instance. Seems reputable. But it depends. I've been to doctors that were very helpful and open minded, and I've been to doctors that were downright nasty/bullying know-it all's who have tried to push a treatment they already know won't work. Not that I've had lots of medical problems, but I was married, once, and she did.

What about Politicians? Mostly, not much respect - because the very nature of the job (in our current system) means they take an oath to obey a creed but must break it to suit "democracy" - collectivism - or majority rules. Of course, there are exceptions like Ron Paul that really stand out as men of principle, which doesn't redeem the title, but at least let's it be known that a principled person can fit into the title and not totally be corrupted by the system.

Kings/Queens/Royalty - Depends entirely on how they rule - but I generally dislike the idea of men being granted such power. I believe there is a lesson in the Israelite's wanting a King - in wanting one they were rejecting God.

Artists - I'm an artist - but why should I be respected for that? More to the point is what does their art say - what does it communicate and how does it affect people?

Anyway, I think you get my drift.

I try to respect everyone unless they give me a reason not to. I could respect people solely for their vocation, but unless they are amazingly talented at what they do- I usually don't give people respect based solely on their vocation. I give people respect on their humanity.

I generally don't respect sport stars.

Usually I respect creative people.

I don't have much respect for a smart person, who's unable to think outside the box and come up with his/her own ideas. I've met smart people who try to lord it over me, but I can't help noticing how boring and unimaginative many of these people actually are. There are plenty of people who can't join mensa, yet end up creating beautiful works, and actually added things to culture.

I have respect for others, regardless of position. I agree with Elliewaves, unless someone gives me a reason not too. I can't put the list in order because I feel that everyone who works hard deserves the same respect. Doesn't matter to me if he or she is the teacher or the janitor.

I formed a sort of special level of respect for people in medical and other science professions this past year when I started college and realized what their course load is like. And that's just their undergrad work.
