Research/Knowledge/Help needed :)

I'm currently writing a semi-short story/novel which I have realised I need a bit of help....

The title is 'Angels' and I'm in a scenario whereby I need some information about angels, any and all historical or mythical stuff.

It's based on an idea that I got after a friends' funeral. A woman, an average, everyday woman (not apparently religiously-associated, kinda agnostic) is walking home one night when she finds a girl dying in the middle of a road. After the girl passes on, the woman, Jayne (SURNAME-NEEDED) experiences strange circumstances e.g. she visualises herself with wings, but on second take they're gone; disappearing randomly and uncomfortably from one place and arriving at another; hearing distant screams that no one else can, etc.

She becomes an Angel (of Life) and discovers that she has the power to save a soul...

What have you tried for research so far? I'd suggest doing some internet searches - Google or Wikipedia - and perhaps hitting up a bookstore and checking out the religion and mythology sections.

Bear in mind that different faiths/cultures may advocate different things in this regard. Are you looking to write about the angels we hear about in the Bible? Or something different? More information would be helpful.
