• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think there's a vast gulf between "repression" and "self-control".

I agree with that entirely. I am not a confrontational person, and I am not especially exhibitionistic. When I'm with my in-laws, I will restrain certain opinions I would share with my husband or friends, out of respect for the fact that I know they would not agree and it would make them upset or uncomfortable to know what I really think. Now, they don't show me the same respect. Although they do understand that my husband and I do not share their views on many things, they continue to shove their opinions in our faces. But, while I find it disrespectful, I'm not going to respond in kind, and neither is my husband. As long as I am not pretending to accept ideas that I do not accept, I have no problem remaining silent when otherwise it would just cause conflict and hurt feelings.

In terms of more personally-oriented things, it depends. I have the kind of sense of humor where people usually don't get that I'm joking, and just end up thinking I'm really stupid or completely crazy LOL. So, around friends who DO get when I'm joking and when I'm not, I'll joke around more. Around people who demonstrate that they have no idea when I'm being serious and when I'm not, I don't joke around that way.

I dunno...I mean there are certain aspects of your personality that need to go beyond just self-control.

Im a [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse], any type of pain in specific areas (Back, neck, shoulders, side....among others) elicits a pleasureable reaction. This...creeps some people out and if I have an accident, like I trip and whack my shoulder, it wont hurt as much but if I make a face like Im trying REAL hard not to keep from making the wrong kind of noise, it wierds people out so I have to fight REAL hard keep under control

It depends on what aspects of your persoanlity your trying to keep under control.
