  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know little about this theology except that it holds the belief that the Church replaces isreal. Can I ask if any of you hold to this and if you can further explain. I am assuming many do as I understand it is a Reformed thought.

Also, how does it line up with Covenant theology.

Can you hold to Covenant theolgy and NOT Replacement theology?

TIA

What Dispensationalists call replacement theology is nothing more or less than the historic teaching of the church on this matter. It is the heterodox theology (which is not yet 200 years old) of Dispensationalism that was the first to deny this teaching.

Here it is in a nut shell. We (the Church of Jesus Christ) are the true Israel of God. We are the heirs of God's promises to Abraham [And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Gal. 3:29].

Those Jews who rejected Christ were "cut off" from the covenant people of God, and believing Gentiles have been grafted into their place [See Rom. 11].

The Olive tree of Romans 11 remains the same, only unbelieving (Jews who rejected Christ) branches have been cut off, and believing branches (repentent Gentiles) have been grafted in.

We have not replaced Israel. We have been greafted into Israel and are Israel and inbelieving Israelites have been cut off and are nolonger Israel (i.e. the Covenant people of God.)

Coram Deo,

That makes more sence. So in reality - it is not 'replacement' more of 'ingrafted theology?"

Are Reformers (for the most part) those who follow this thought - or are there other denominations that do?

Are there flaws? Has anyone here come from the other 'view' and has now embraced Replacement theology?

I guess I heard bad stuff about it. And I lean towards Coven Theology over Dispen. - so would that mean that Replacement theology better fits with Cov?

Hope I am making sense.

Covenant Theology holds to what I mention above. Most all other Schools also hold to that view. It is the universal teaching of all the church until the seed of dispensationalism is planted in the early 1800's.

One can not be Reformed and dispensational, altough you can be a Calvinist and a Dispensationalist.

I hope that helps.
