Okay I have been a Christian for a little over a year but I do not completely understand the concept of repenting... I know it's turning from sin...but what does that exactly mean? Does it mean we should sin less? or not at all? It's impossible to not sin because nobody's perfect..so how do you know if you've successfully repented? If we sin on purpose even once does this mean that we didn't really repent? Will we go to Heaven if we sin on purpose and forget to ask forgiveness even if we are a Christian? Sometimes I think even it's impossible for some people to repent, because they have a bad habit and no matter what they do they can't stop it even when they asked God to help them.

Okay, let me tell you about myself, I'm a Christian but I swear a lot and it's probably my biggest flaw. I swear on purpose a lot but I do ask forgiveness once every couple days but I'm still not sure if I've done this thing called repenting. I still sin sometimes on accident sometimes on purpose..and I have no idea if I died right now where I would go because of my sinful habits. When I do swear I don't even feel bad or anything about it. I only swear when I'm by myself most of the time too and I've tried accountability partners but that didn't work. I asked God's help, that didn't work either. I want to obey God and be a Christian but I still want to express myself however I please. How do we know when we're sinning too much and we haven't really repented? If we sin once on purpose then die forgetting to ask forgiveness, do we go to Heaven? I don't think I can really repent because I don't have the ability yet, but I'm not sure. AAAAAAHHH!!! This is so freaking confusing!!!! Could someone help me here?!?!?!?!?

OK, so, repenting is asking forgiveness from God. I think that subconsciously (sp?) we all know when we sin. So asking for forgiveness is what we should do. I know that it's near impossible to not sin, but we need to try not to. That's the way to be in God's eyes. That's one of the biggest concepts of Christianity.. being forgiven for our sins, that's why Jesus died for us.

First off...stay calm :)

Repenting is more than just asking for forgiveness. Repentance is the changing of your mind. In fact it means to change your mind.

Does it mean we should sin less? or not at all?

Not at all!

I want to say so much but I'm afraid that you may get bored with my response so instead I will make a suggestion.

Read Romans 7: 14-25

If you need help with understanding those scriptures or if you're just looking for encouragement on doing the right thing, then feel free to ask! God Bless!

Hi slim ,

Well there's basically 2 kinds of repentance .

The man - made .

And the God - given .

# 1 is good .

#2 . Is far , far better .

Repentance , technically means - To Think Differently . ( Have new associations , & priorities ) ; and has already been mentioned , to have a changed mind .

Godly sorrow , is not repentance , but it leads to it .

Consider the negative effect swearing has on Christ's witness in your life .

Let the realization of how hurtful it is , bring sorrow and remorse .

With all that is in you refrain from continuing , while praying that The Lord grant you freedom from the old , bad habit .

Sincerely ,

wm

It means changing your life for the good according to your faith. In other words, if you need to cut off your right hand then do that. Repenting may include changing your life around to facilitate a greater relationship with God. Repenting is turning towards God and shuning evil. Repenting is getting off the road that leads to perdition and getting on the road that leads to life.

Peace-

Keep praying for God's continued help with this...he will help you. God wants us to always be in prayer, so pray always for this struggle you deal with.

Repenting: Yes, turn from your sins and stop the sin that you are repenting of...this is hard and takes a lot of reliance on God...keep praying.

Heaven or Hell: If you are saved, heaven is home to you. You will return home whether or not you repent before you die. Once saved, always saved.
