I must be nuts. I am almost finished cleaning the kitchen. I am cleaning the cabinets and countertops. I now have the fridge to do and then put everything back. Bad thing about being short, you cannot see how much dust is on top of the fridge. The good thing is that you can't see it so out of sight, out of mind! I keep telling myself I will feel so good when it is all finished....

LOL. I hate it when my husband--and now also my sons--tell me that the top of the fridge needs cleaning. Since they see it and I don't, why don't they clean it themselves?

I remember reading a column once (might have been Hints from Heloise, might have been Erma Bombeck) that rather than driving yourself nuts cleaning when company comes - you should stand in the doorway of a room - clean everything that is readily visible (after all, no one is going to get down on their hands and knees and look under your sofa for dust bunnies) then soak a cleaning rag with some PineSol (or similarly scented cleaner) and just wave it around the rooms a few times. Everyone will think you slaved and slaved making a nice, inviting environment for them.

LOL - I'm one of 4 sisters. When we were growing up my dad would, on occasion, call us all together and point to something on the floor - for example a paper clip. He would stand there pointing at the item in question and say (loudly and rather angrily) "I must have walked over this 20 times and no one has picked it up!!" Then he'd stand there staring at us until one of us picked it up. I always wondered (but never asked - he didn't raise any dummies) why didn't he pick it up one of the 20 times he walked over it


Oh - and I only clean the top of the fridge when folks >6 feet are coming to visit.

Well, that's the problem. My husband and four of my sons are 6' and over, and the last is on his way up there...I have to get on a stool to clean that high...

And for those who don't know what this is... it's a hand-operated vacuum cleaner. For when you need reps and your electricity goes out.

How does it work? Do you suck in the top end?
