Did anyone see any ads for this yet? I saw a sneak preview on Entertainmment Tonight or something. I got chills. It looks like it is going to be very well done.

I love the play so much that I hope the movie does it justice. I am sooooo excited! It comes out in November.

I can not wait for this movie. I saw the trailer for it, and it looks amazing. I'd post the link to the trailer, but it won't let me, so if anyone wants it then just pm me or something. It looks like it will definitly do the show justice, although there are some things that were changed a lot, but I don't think those things will make it bad.
Also, it's pretty much the original broadway cast, and those people are incredible, so that should make it even better than if they had just used random famous people who can kind of sing.

I can not wait to see this movie!!!! Before I had kids, seven years ago, I was one of those crazy kids who camped out in front of the theatre waiting for 1st & 2nd row $20 seats. I saw it 11 times with the original broadway cast. I am excited that so many of them are in the movie. That will make it all the more special to me!!!!

I used to love this show back in my "younger days." I actually hadn't listened to the cast recording for a few years, and pulled it out last week. Disc one is now playing in my car, and I have to admit, I don't like it nearly as much as I used to. It is sooo hedonistic. I do think it has a few good messages in the midst of some really bad messages. I don't know. At this point in my life, I actually felt a little uncomfortable listening to some of it. Anyway, sorry to be a wet blanket. :D Unless the reviews are stellar, I will probably wait until the DVD to see it. It is very cool that they got a lot of the original cast to do the movie though. That's pretty unusual.

Wow, I can't believe that the movie musical is actually trying to come back! It's great that movies like Chicago and Phantom have gotten a good reception at the box office. I'm sure Rent will too.

I saw the preview like 4 times in the theatre. To be honest, the commercial makes me NOT want to watch it. It's funny because without the preview I'd be like "Awesome! Let's go see it!" Now I'm rethinking the whole musical thing. Sad!

Yup, my oldest daughter and I are going to the NYC prem. I love that so many original cast members are doing the movie.

Should I admit to seeing the play 18 times? ......

That's interesting... one of the reasons I'm fond of Rent is that it's not hedonistic. I'm old... I was round to see the run throughs back before the play was even in previews... they did the original work at a theater around the corner from where I lived with my dad on the lower east side. I probably tend to be attached to the play because of the way it ended up using places like "Life" cafe... so it's a lot like "home" with a soundtrack to me :)

I'm sorry, but this musical is so dirty. I hate to be another "wet blanket", but how can you as Christians tolerate something like this?? I'm a teenager (the age where you are supposed to be rebeling) and even I can't bare to listen to friends of mine ramble off the filthy lyrics to these songs.

There may be good messages of friendship etc...but they are being represented by people with disgraceful practices. We are supposed to avoid all appearance of evil.

I mean honestly, could you see Jesus sitting down to watch RENT?? Personally, I think not.

I could see Jesus sitting down to watch Rent without a doubt, Jesus didn't spend much time amongs the pure and innocent. (Oh that's right there aren't any pure and innocent humans)

I'm another person who was an avid fan in college, but not so much now...

I mean, it's okay - I certainly wouldn't condemn someone for listening to it. As a matter of fact, I think every Christian SHOULD see it at least once, because it puts names and faces to some of the "forgotten" members of our society. Its portrayal of our generation in the late 1990s is dead on.

BUT...I'm just in a different place in my life right now. I don't want to watch everything that comes out just to look for "hidden" meanings, or profound spiritual truth buried in the garbage. I'm tired of the intellectualizing, and feeling that, as a minister and a theatre professional, I need to embrace everything in order to be considered "compassionate" or "artistic."

But that being said, my husband and I will probably go see the movie - if for no other reason, to bring back memories of our last year of college!!
