  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

okay this may be a stupid question as i've only been married a year and maybe somehting onlly my pastor can answer but i would appreciate response anyway!! :)

My husband and I both know that someday (not sure when) we would like to renew our vows. We did not have a church wedding as I had been married and divorced before (another long story) but the church where i'm a member, the pastor there has a conviction about marrying someone who's already been married before. So if we weren't able to get married there to begin with would it stand to reason that when we would go to renew our vows we wouldn't be able to in the church?

Just curious!!

I'd be interested to know on what basis you pastor won't marry people again.

Is he talking about marrying those who have been divorced or is he talking about renewing vows of those currently married?

I've never heard of a pastor who wouldn't allow couples to renew their vows. If this is the case I'd ask him if he has a Biblical basis for this belief.

He's talking about marrying those that have already been married before as it says we are to be married for life. But I had biblical grounds for divorce (adultery on the part of my ex) but like I said that's a long story. It took me awhile to get over the hurt that he wouldn't marry us but I have.
I guess my question is now is that since I am now remarried would something like renewing my vows be somehting acceptable to be done at my church. I guess i really need to ask my pastor huh? LOL!

If you had Biblical grounds for divorce and you ex was unrepentant about his adultry then I see nothing wrong with remarriage. Divorce is an ugly thing and I'm sorry that you had to go through it.

I do not know your pastor and I'm not sure of his basis for not re-marrying couples after a divorce. (If the divorce was not on Biblical terms I could understand.)

Talk to him and see if he would be willing to help you renew your vows. If not then ask him if he thinks your living in sin through your second marriage. If he does then one must wonder why he has not confronted you on this issue sooner.
