  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Shalom to all,

With all due respect to all, but I would like to know about the following people...

Herod Antipater
Herod Antipas
Herod I
Yeshua Ben Panthera

Do these people ever exist? or just a myth?

I would appreciate if you could impart the truth/opinions.

Thanks in advance.

They existed. Wiki will answer your questions. Although Yeshua Panthera is properly Yeshu ben Pandira, but there are so many variants on hese names it gets a tad messy. Not to worry.

Yeshua Ben Panthera is a fictitious story about Yashua.

Thanks for all the responses, Hi Guardian, any other sources aside from Wikipedia?

I just read somewhere that the following people were:

Herod Antipater - (real husband of Yeshua's Mother aka Mary)

Herod Antipas - (father of Herod Antipater)
Herod I - (father of Herod Antipas)
Yeshua Ben Panthera (twin brother of Judas as Mary was raped by a Roman soldier)

Is there any part of the original Talmud that has information about these stories?

Thanks in advance..

The Herodian dynasty was quite real and historical. That there was any sexual relationship between Antipater and Yeshua's mother is a complete flight of fancy.

You will want to check out a review of Robert Graves' work, "King Jesus". Note the use of words like "semi-historical", "unorthodox" and "tenuous tradition".

The Talmud contains several snippets of stories that seem to depict the family and life of a fellow named Yeshua who was born to a woman named Miriam as a result of rape. However, there is no continuous story containing sufficient detail to match these accounts to the person of Yeshua HaNotri. And when trying to collate these snippets into a single story, the result contains several significant historical errors, like being off by about 100 years.

There is a good review of the Talmudic sources in the Wiki article entitled "Yeshu, in the section labeled, "Ben Pandera and ben Stada".

If I may ask, why are you specifically interested in getting information on those specific issues? Are you involved in another discussion elsewhere on the topic? Or are you simply curious based on something you read? Or something else entirely?

There were many " Yeshua".. very common name just as "Mary" was in those days. With Yeshua's controversy, should there have been even a shred of truth,.. the Pharisees would have been all over it like a dirty shirt.. but it had never entered into their heads to even spread such a rumor. Not even the Talmud made that connection.
