With the growing number of churches that are teaching God’s laws are a thing of the past citing arguments like “we are not under the law we are under grace” or “Gods laws are only for the Jews ” I thought I would create a post to examine what does the Bible teach us about the laws of God. If we remove God's laws what are we really teaching and what are we removing from our lives?

Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 13: 5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.
According to scripture we should test ourselves to ensure we are in the faith.

My pastor preached a beautiful sermon on this topic so I wanted to share here.

What happens if we remove Gods laws? Is God’s character in Gods laws? If we remove His laws are we removing God?

God is Good:
Luke 18:19 So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God

God’s law is Good:
Romans 7:12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.

God is Holy:
Isaiah 5:16 But the Lord of hosts shall be exalted in judgment,
And God who is holy shall be hallowed in righteousness.

God’s law is Holy:
Romans 7:12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.

God is Just:
Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect;
For all His ways are justice,
A God of truth and without injustice;
Righteous and upright is He.

God’s law are Just: Romans 7:12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.

God is Perfect:
Mathew 5:48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

God’s law is Perfect:
Psalms 19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;

God is Love
1 John 4:8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

God's law is Love:
Romans 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

God is Righteous
Exodus 9:27 2 And Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, “I have sinned this time. The Lord is righteous, and my people and I are wicked.

God’s law are Righteous
Psalms 19:9 The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the LORD are firm, and all of them are righteous.

God is Truth:
Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.

God’s laws is Truth:
Psalms 119:142 Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth. Psalms 119:151 You are near, O LORD, And all Your commandments are truth.

God is Pure:
1 John 3:3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

God’s laws are Pure:
Psalms 19:8 the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;

God is Spiritual:
John 4:24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

God’s law is Spiritual:
Romans 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.

God is Unchangeable:
Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

God’s laws are Unchangeable:
Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

God is Eternal
Genesis 21:33 And Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God.

God’s laws are Eternal
Psalms 111:7,8 The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure. They stand fast forever and ever, And are done in truth and uprightness

Considering God’s character is reflected in Gods laws, when we remove God’s law what else are we removing?

Yes, we are saved by grace (God’s gift) but what else does the Word of God tell us?

1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

2 John 1:6 This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.

1 John 15:10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

Mathew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

1 John 2:4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Mathew 19:17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

Revelations 22:14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

God's commandments are found in Exodus 20

God bless
so what parts of the law do we keep and what parts do we cut out? What is the criteria?

The last two words have no meaning outside of the context of the words preceding it which define lawlessness.
You are welcome to your opinion, but I prefer to believe Jesus and believe He meant what He said.

One more comment: The 10 Commandments mostly speak of what not to do. Loving your neighbor, on the other hand, such as with the Samaritan, may trump a commandment (such as the priest and Levite remaining clean before temple) to have empathy to care for the beaten man. Does anyone feel proud to stand before God and say they didn't kill anyone? Or that they helped someone in need? Two very different mindsets.
That's where the second covenant comes in. His laws (Exodus 20) written in our hearts and minds. We obey out of love.

Yes and? Are you agreeing with my post or disagreeing? Yeshua did not break Shabbat by healing on Shabbat...
I do not believe in stoning people for working on the seventh day. I let them decide what they want to do on that day.

Adam plainly tells God that he hid because he realized that he was naked.

Think about it. Seriously.

Adam had been naked all along. There was nothing evil or wrong about it.

Yet after eating, he decided there was something wrong with it.

He did not have the ability to truly discern good from evil, only that there was evil.

The evil wasn’t being naked, but the eating.

You can't remove a believer as an option. So there are no churches that are preaching, become an unbeliever again.

2 Corinthians 6:14
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.
For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness?
Or what fellowship has light with darkness?

There is more to God than just believing in Him. Thats an important first step, but we are not supposed to be baby Christians forever. As we continue seeking Him though His Word, we should be growing in our understanding of scriptures.

With the growing number of churches that are teaching God’s laws are a thing of the past citing arguments like “we are not under the law we are under grace”

That takes a lot of nerve. Churches teaching Grace over eternal death.

John 1:17
For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Romans 6:1-4
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

Romans 6:14
For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

Hebrews 8:13
In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

Hebrews 9:15

Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.

Ephesians 4:7
But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift.

2 Corinthians 12:9

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Romans 11:6
But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

James 4:6
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

Hebrews 4:16
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

1 Corinthians 15:10
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.

John 1:16
And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.

Romans 5:8
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Titus 2:11-14
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

Romans 3:20-24
For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

2 Timothy 2:1
You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus,

Titus 2:11
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,

Ephesians 2:1-22
And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— ...

2 Timothy 1:9
Who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,

2 Corinthians 9:8
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

Jude 1:4
For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy 4:22
The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.

2 Peter 3:18
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Acts 4:33
And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.

Best to stop listening to any sermons. They wear special clothes, sometimes have a person devoted to special lighting, and they end a sermon with appropriate music all designed to keep you from thinking and reading for yourself.

I often used to listen to sermons from the control booth and chatted with the lighting and sound control guy. I was dating his sister.

Instead, I attended Sunday class where thought and dialogue was encouraged.

That should be obvious based on the translation I use and the ideals I hold.
As we continue seeking Him through His Word, we should be growing in our understanding of scriptures.

I know you were not speaking to me about this, but I just wanted to help you out with something.

If you have come to Faith, then rest assured that the Father and Son have come to live in you. It was a promise Jesus made before He left.

It is good to read the Bible, no doubt, but you will not "find" God in there. Kinda like me giving my kids cards for their birthdays and when they want to hear from me they go read the cards instead of coming to me directly.

You will not find God in God’s Words? I would rather find God based on Truth from His Words than based on mans interpretation of scriptures. Maybe you should watch the story of my pastor, Doug Batchelor “The Richest Caveman.” He was a druggie, not raised with any religion, mother was an actress, father a very wealthy man. Doug was kicked out of school, stealing from his neighbors and ended up living in a cave. In the cave was a Bible. He started reading it which led Him directly to God and changed His life. So I wholeheartedly disagree.

With the growing number of churches that are teaching God’s laws are a thing of the past citing arguments like “we are not under the law we are under grace” or “Gods laws are only for the Jews ” I thought I would create a post to examine what does the Bible teach us about the laws of God. What happens if we remove Gods laws? Is God’s character in Gods laws? If we remove His laws are we removing God?

God’s law is Good:
Romans 7:12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.

God is Holy:
Isaiah 5:16 But the Lord of hosts shall be exalted in judgment,
And God who is holy shall be hallowed in righteousness.

God’s law is Holy:
Romans 7:12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.

God is Just:
Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect;
For all His ways are justice,

God bless
Hi imge, lots of great points in your post!

I don't see myself as removing any of God's laws.

We know that God's laws are fulfilled by loving our neighbor as ourselves.

So if my brother dies without leaving any sons, do I marry his wife and have sex with her, in addition to the wife that I already have, so as to raise up sons in his name?
No, but I do love his widow as I love myself.
