It only searches to find the last 500 posts. If you could bring that number down to, say, 50, it wouldn't bog down the server as much. I doubt people post more than 50 times per three or four days and if they do, they need to exercise more! :p
That's not how it works.

The information regarding which forum the post is in or when it was posted, is located with the post. In order to find the last 500, 100 or even last 10 posts, the server has to search ALL posts - there's no facility to just search the last 500 posts - if that was possible we won't be in this predicament.

Would it be possible to show a users last x posts in their profile? the posts could queue there and drop off (like reps) rather than be searched... Just an idea...
That is possible, with some recoding. Why not just automatically subscribe to threads you've posted in via your User CP, Options? That works just as well.

I just activated that "auto subsc. to threads" yesterday so am a little foggy on that function. When I looked at it earlier today, it only had 2 of the 3 threads listed that I'd posted in since activating it. When I clicked on "view all subscribed threads", it did show all 3 though.

I left for an hr., and when I came back and clicked on User CP, this time it only listed one subscribed thread, until I again clicked on "show all subsc.". Why does it perform that way, or do I need to adjust my settings somehow?
Thanks!

that function is very kewl - it shows those subscribed threads in which there have been posts since your last visit/post - so if ther has been no activity on that thread you will not see it usually on your CP

First off Erwin, Congrats on being #1 of the Christian world:clap:, and breaking the top 20 of the world! Woo Hoo!

I'll miss the feature as well. I used to be on another board similar to this one and the subscribed thread is not always a joy to deal with. :( The search your posts was the best, IMHO, and one I'll miss here.

BTW, I l

ve this board. I l

ve it so much that when my other site, my home on the net for the last 3 years, went down to upgrade to an improved board, I didn't bother to re-register there. Your site has all I need with one improved aspect crucial to me ... I won't be labeled a 'goodie-two-shoes' here for having Christian morals and following and vocalizing those same beliefs.

Thanks Erwin, for giving me a better home on the net

... keep up the good work and I'll live without the search for now and subscribe until hopefully you can figure out how to work out the bugs!

You mean everyone isn't using autosubscribed threads? How else can you keep up with where you've posted?

When I've read all of them, I make sure I Mark All Forums read, so next time only new posts in subscribed threads show up, not the whole list all the time. When I'm done with them, then I go look for the new threads.

Vbulletin has come a long way, for sure!

I agree - everyone should use this feature rather than search posts.

One question I still have is, since the "find all ****'s posts" function is now gone, is there any other way to bring up at least a "recent posts" list of others previous posts, in order to get a better sense of where a person (whose post you're currently reading or about to reply to) is coming from theologically, etc.?
That was another reason that that feature was so useful.

I don't know how all these cookies etc work, but currently CF remembers which threads you have read recently- a process which i assume uses cookies. Couldn't the same process just provide a link in the usercp for all the threads you've posted in. That way, recent posts would be something saved onto your computer rather than something which requires the database to be searched.

.. or perhaps you could create a new colour for the icons. At the moment it's grey if there are no new posts in that thread/forum, orange if there are, and so perhaps there could be a green (?) icon for those threads or forums which you have recently posted in.

One thing you might want to note is that although the links are gone, it is still possible to search a member's last 100 posts/threads simply by using the URL. Is this feature also supposed to be removed?

ok, I used that feature a lot also...and i'm going to miss it but I really think I will be ok ;) ! But!, I see a lot of discussion about autosubscribing to threads. What is that and how do you do it? It sounds like it could solve the worlds problems and I would like to be a part of that! O.k., maybe not the world's problems, but at least the finding past threads problem...so please help me by explaining how this works. Thanks and have a great and peace filled day!

ok - go to your Control Panel - you will find a quick link in the far upper LEFT hand corner of every CF page listed as User CP.
Once there look at the list on the LEFT: under Settings & Options select "Edit Options."
Once there scroll down to "Messaging & Notification" box.
The second item on the list in that block is "Default Thread Subscription Mode" and there is wa drop down box with options.
Your's is currently probably on "Do Not Subscribe". I have chosen "No Email Notification".

What that does is that every time you go to User CP in the future you will see every thread in which you have posted that has had activity (posting) since your last visit. When you no longer want to keep track of a particular thread you can choose "unsubscribe" option under that specific thread on your User CP page.

That is pretty much the basics - feel free to PM me if I left something out ;)

Not for finding my own posts - but for getting to 'know' other posters...
