  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Today I was walking back to my barracks room and thinking, appreciately, about the great films that Stanley Kubrick made, and how we really could use another Kubrick film; we could use another creative movie by him that changes the way that we view ourselves and the way we look at movies.

Stanley Kubrick made some of the most outstanding and memorable films of the 20th century, and has personally entertained and inspired me; the striking imagery and utter creativity that he put into his films spans everything from ancient Rome (Spartacus) to futuristic dystopias (Clockwork Orange); from real situations (Full Metal Jacket) to Science Fiction (2001: A Space Odyssey).

To me what stands out about each Kubrick film is that it always has an entirely creative set of imagery to it; no one can forget the striking set of 2001, no one can forget the Drill Instructor in Full Metal Jacket, no one can forget Alex and his Droogs in Clockwork Orange, etc.

Each film is surprisingly unique and strangely (and beautifully) Stanley Kubrick.

It has been six years since his death, and right now I am really hurting for another installation of your creativity. I wish that you were here to share with us your visions. You are missed.
