I don't know but it is a cool fish. Maybe a marlin? I do know I wouldn't want to mess with that guy though. Praying for his family!

No, I don't think that is a marlin. It has the wrong type of head (I guess that's what you call it). Whatever it is, it's a nice catch. Makes me want to go deep sea fishing. I haven't been in over 25 years!

dan was a great friend and i will never forget him. i'm sad that he felt so bad that he felt he had only one option. i wish there was something i could have said and done to help take his hurt away and help see a reason to live. there's nothing any of us can do now though. its said and done and all we have now are memories. soo, i wanted to bring a little light-heartedness to this thread bc that's what i do. you all have heard of the "ridiculously photogenic _____" meme right? basically a picture of some guy looking great in the midst of a very difficult task. this one was too perfect not to add to the mix.

so first you've got the most well know "ridiculously photogenic marathon runner". next, the "ridiculously photogenic jiu-jitsu guy". then "ridiculously photogenic football player", and finally we have the "ridiculously photogenic recon marine". i saw that picture and that's the first thing that popped into my head..."oh this would make such a great meme". but i wouldn't put it out there without dan's permission of course, so i jus thought i'd post it here. (only the 4th picture is dan obviously)

one of the things i liked most about dan was his abiliy to make the best out of any situation. he never complained aobut anything. he just wanted to make sure others felt good and were taken care of. i guess maybe that can take a toll on a person after a while.

met him here but he treated me to lunch one day when iwas driving through his area. he was a very good and generous person. I've read through the posts here and he didn't sound like his normal self. but i promise he was a good person.

Wow that's awesome that you met him for lunch. We could see his heart in the short time we knew him here. It's sad but sometimes someone's death can touch more lives than when the person was alive. I have no doubt Dan touched many lives while living and he continues to live on and touch people since he's been gone.

I only hope and pray that his son's can make it thru the grief they are going thru.

ditto. its true that sometimes death can bring people together and we can truly see just how many lives that person touched. sometimes we cant see that when they are alive. thanks for sharing that other story you did too.
its sad that dan felt the way he did about his job though. he should have been proud of it but it sounds like he died thinking he was a really bad person for what he did. i pray he is at peace now.
i'm praying for his kids too. he really loved them. and he really missed his wife. praying for them all.

I think he loved his job for most of the time he was enlisted, but it was the last time, the one where he went behind his wife's back and re-upped and then probably on here in other sections people that are anti-war made him feel how he felt in the end, like a monster that killed innocent people. Idon't share that view of him though. He was a soldier thru and thru, but he also had a huge heart. I think his injuries got the best of him and satan succeeded in getting him to leave the earth, but God uses everything for the good for those that love Him and I believe at the end Dan loved God and God let him go home.

i saw a link for this and am very sad to find out that this guy died. i looked in my pm's and there was one from him dated feb 24 1:13 am.. that must have been not long before he died. i was going to kill myself that night be he convinced me how much i had to live for and to please not do it. he talked me down and prayed for me. He saved my life. i didn't even know what he was going through. he just wanted to help me. i hope i can live a good long life in his honor.

WOW. That is absolutely amazing and incredible. This tells me that even in the final, tragic moments of his own life, God was using Dan to reach someone else... and even the last moments of his life were NOT in vain...as terrible as Dan felt about the men who had died around him, I hope God tells him that he SAVED another life, even as he was planning to take his own... *sniffs back tears*

Ost - welcome to CF and I hope you stick around!

he died unfortunately :(
his family and friends are still in my thoughts and prayers.

I kind of got that much, dustin. No offense. But what injuries did he have? I'm so sad. He was so nice to me just the few times we interacted on here not that long ago.

He took his own life. He had plenty of physical injuries but the ones in his heart are what he died of.

Oh. That makes it even worse. I had a prayer thread for my mom and he said he was praying for her. I messaged him a couple times but he never said anything about being injured or suicidal. It's shocking to me.

That is so sad, the insurmountable pain he must have been in. May God be an eternal comfort to him now.

Dan was basically bedridden from injuries he received serving as a Marine. Based on what people have posted here, I do not believe he had a selfish bone in his body. He was facing his 9th back surgery, had brain injuries, and was basically deaf. People post many beautiful pictures of him on this forum but I suspect that is not what he looked like at the end. However, his heart was obviously just as beautiful as it always was.

People on this forum need to start realizing that words do matter and often we are not aware of the hardships of those around us are silently bearing.

I hope your mother is doing better. I do not doubt that he prayed for her and you too.
