• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Remember Osama Bin Laden?

Hey, weren't we supposed to get that turkey?!

Here's what Bush Jr. has to say on the subject (emphesis mine):

"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him."
- G.W. Bush, 9/13/01

Yeah! Darn tootin! Let's roll™!

But what's this a mere 6 months later?

"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."
- G.W. Bush, 3/13/02

Huh?? What gives?

also, he was the number one priority then because he was the number one threat. His capabilities are now substantially limited. That man cannot sit down to relieve himself without having warnings of being in the same place too long. The rest of his life will be like that of a Buck during deer season. Only difference is, they've got it much easier, and we can't eat him.

How can we discern that he is not a threat right now? No one knows where he is (or even if he is alive). His minions were able to bring upon the worst terrorist attack with box cutters and plane tickets, I don't see how we can brush him aside.

Also, let's look at what Bush said:

It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him.

Why use such vivid vocabularly in the first place if you don't really mean it?

What are we supposed to think when Bush uses such words against Saddam? Maybe he's just full of hot air again?

His capabilities are now substantially limited.

Again, I have no idea how one can assert this when we have no idea what he is up to. He certainly doesn't have a past history of resting on his laurels when it comes to attacking the U.S..

starscream--I do not disagree with you, in a way. I don't think it is in our best national security interests to reveal that we do or do not know where he is at or what his capabilities are. If CNN comes on tonight with--"we know where he is!"--then what will happen? Would this be productive in capturing him? Nope. We have some very dedicated individuals hunting him down--it is their job, and they take it very seriously.

Take care

As a member of law enforcement, I can promise that the agencies that handle international terrorism have not forgotten about OBL and Al-Qaeda. They are still a threat, and still being considered and pursued. But, the media is all about Iraq right now, and it is the new focal point for most of the world, so I would say that is why the other has seemingly faded from sight. You know, "out of sight, out of mind".

As far as the President's remarks, I would never try to explain anything a politician says. I have an easier time explaining what my two year old says with a mouth full of crackers. And more fun.

I must have daddy fever or something, because I find that oddly funny.

So months of bombing after bombing after bombing would nto be reason to believe that his capablities are "substanially limited'? If not, then what is?!

That's not fair. Here is man who has a hard enough time finding words to use when speaking, let alone how to pronounce them, and now you want them to have appropiate meaning? You're asking a lot.
