• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I don't know because Icons don't do much for me. I am a Christian first and then my local church 2nd (denomination). If a Christian wants to know more about my beliefs, that person can ask me directly or read all of my posts. I have over 4,400 posts and I am sure I have stated my beliefs regarding Reformed Theology.

I'm with you Jim.

Oh my, I must ask you and our sweet Lord to forgive me if I appeared proud of bearing the calvinist shield icon. Pride is definitely a great sin of which I often must repent, but had no thoughts of such when using the icon! When I view the icon I'm reminded of God's most amazing grace and that while I was in sin our sweet Lord rescued me to Himself for all eternity! That is the good news, the gospel! It isnt pride in my heart that He rescued me but the most humble gratitude imaginable! I still am just awestruck by it all, that as unworthy as I am even as a sinner He chose to save me! That little icon brings me to the dust, makes me aware of what great sacrifice it took for me to become His!
Similar here as there are denominational separations for kindred spirits to join in discussion and for others to come with questions about our faith, we have that calvinist shield that says clearly to the world that we stand unashamed for Christ!
No, it certainly isnt necessary in being Christian to have the icon! Possibly to me I treasure it as a reminder also of how very many years I lived as arminian before being found by the doctrines of grace! It causes my gratitude to soar and reminds me that there is no value at all to me!
Not by any works of righteousness that I have done, but by His mercy He saved me!Titus 3:5
Soli deo gloria!

I'm so sorry - I never intended to imply pride on anyone's part, your's especially. From your posts and from our conversations I know you are truly a humble woman of God. I have so much to learn from you because of your knowledge and your experience.

I just look at it that Calvinism is my doctrinal viewpoint, but that I'm a Christian first - that's truly all I meant. Anyone who hovers over my icon sees my home church name which clearly states Reformed.

When I first joined CF and completed my profile I considered using the Calvinist icon but decided against it for the above reason. However, if I'm honest with myself, there is probably a certain amount of pride involved in my not having chosen it. I find that many people hear Calvinist and assume hyperCalvinist. I'd rather not have to deal with that so avoid the confrontation altogether (I'm thinking that falls under pride).

your sister in Christ,

You never did imply pride Edie, please dont feel badly! When we have cause to examine ourselves and search our hearts this is a good thing!

Yes, I agree that we're Christians first and foremost, always the most important consideration!

I think we both want to keep our hearts focus on Him! As someone said, the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing!
Being a Christian is still like walking the edge of a razor blade, keeping our eyes front and center and not being carried off to the side. If in any posts here I find cause to examine my heart and to regain my focus then that is a good thing!
I am thankful for you as my sister in Christ and know that our hearts have the same desire, to please Him first!
