Why is this so difficult to grasp? It's not that God could have wiped out everyone that's the problem. The problem is maintaining that it would have been acceptable by an omnipotent God.

Or are you just doing what so many people already do ... essentially just flap open the bible and read some isolated tid-bit without thinking---more specifically, without critical thinking---or doing the labor of taking into account literary study?

I'm guessing that in your case, it's the latter.

But I get what you're saying: your concern is with maintaining the present status quo "world think," and you expect that it shouldn't be questioned. Am I wrong? Am I not supposed to question the world as I do? I'm not allowed ...?

The point is about what the OT said God did. Not what the NT said Jesus did. Accepting the former is a problem. Accepting the latter is not. Please try to stay focussed.
