  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Would appreciate a definition of adultery if anyone would like to have a go. That this is important is highlighted by that it was a stonable offence:

Leviticus 20:10
“‘If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbour—both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death."

John 8:3-5
The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?”

To anyone interested - it is not my intention to disprove scripture (even though this might seem to be the case upon reading my posts); rather, I wish to examine and test to see if what is written is true.

Acts 17:11

EDIT:
I am most sorry. It appears that my long post was somehow scrambled!
I will rewrite it tomorrow.

The debate is over Matthew 5:28:
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

You are right that there is a difference but I don't accept that any amount is harmless - though I accept I can't prove it.

You still haven't proved that Jesus was wrong.

In stating a rule to be followed by those who follow Him, Jesus was not wrong. It's as if the Commandant of the Marine Corps ordered the Marines to wear their covers (hats) indoors and outdoors continuously while in uniform. He has the authority to give that command to everyone who has made the oath of obedience to his authority upon entering the Marine Corps, and he has the authority to punish disobedience as a morally wrong action within the Corps.

But it has nothing to do with anyone who has not made that oath of obedience to his command.

Romans 6 covers this. 1 Corinthians 5 covers this. Obedience to Jesus' specific commands for behavior isn't for non-Christians.

??? It's still what God would urge on any person is it not?

No. No book of scripture was written to unbelievers.

Even if true - that the Gospel was to be preached to unbelievers is a fact - unless you are a hyper-Calvinist (which I am pretty sure you are not).

So what's your point?
