I began a degree in Religious Studies and hadn't completed it. I decided to go into business and risk management instead because of the money, and I needed it at the time because I was just getting married and wanted to be able to provide for my family. Though, I feel as though I'm constantly being pulled back over and over again to theology. I see now that money isn't as important as loving God's Word and isn't even as important as doing what I actually love. And I love studying the Bible. I love it more than anything. In fact, I believe he put my wife and I in a situation where we didn't have much over the past year because of the amount of bills and the fact that she has to stay in Florida while I wait for my immigration to go through from Canada so we're paying for two rentals and car payments, etc., to show us that money is really not what is important. He provided for us and I feel as though he will always do so.

So, I'm merely looking into finishing my religious studies degree and am considering going to Seminary. My wife and I are praying about it, though. She just wants me to be happy doing what I enjoy.

I would like to find a good Seminary (even possibly Reformed) that offers a PhD research program that would give me the opportunity to get into teaching theology or Christian studies courses as a profession (either as a professor or elder/pastor). Understand that I would be giving up the possibility of making a lot of money by getting into theology rather than staying in risk management & insurance, so I know that I wouldn't be doing it for those motivations. I just love studying God's Word and feel as though i can't do anything else and be happy doing it.

My question is this: does anyone know of a Reformed Seminary that is in FL that would offer such a program? RTS in Orlando seems to only offer Master's Programs and I'm more interested in research that leads to a terminal degree. I am willing to go to other seminaries, but would prefer a Reformed Seminary. Though, if I have to I will go to any other Seminary to learn, even though I'll probably have to disagree with a lot of the professors on certain things.

Suggestions? Again, still only praying and thinking about it right now.

The North American Reformed Seminary is entirely online and entirely free. I think AMR who is on this forum is one of the mentors there. You can ask him about it. They have D.Min in Reformed Theology and D.D. in Puritan Studies. tnars.net is the website.

Thanks, JM. Did you feel it was worth the time put in?

Yeah, kind of.

It really taught me to discipline my reading and study time. There are no deadlines so I had to set my own. My mentor had a ton of students and worked in the ministry so I always felt like I was bothering him. The material for their courses can be found on their site, it's all free online so if you could find a local mentor that would be willing to read and comment on your finished papers it would probably be more beneficial.

It kind of seems like the kind of program that doesn't have much weight in the academic world. I'm looking for something a little more along those lines I think. Is my assumption correct about the school?

I don't want to jump to conclusions or anything. I just want to be realistic.
