Ok, I'm new to this whole thing, forgive me if this has already been covered but, as I get more familiar with things there seems to be a difference in the Reformed view and the Calvinist view---what exactly is the difference? I was under the mistaken thought that Reformed was just a different word for Calvinism....

Can anyone point out to me the difference between those who are "reformed" and those who are "calvinists"?

Much appreciation in advance!!! :)

So, what I'm getting when I read through that thread was that most who consider themselves "Reformed" believe in the "covenant theory" whereas most who consider themselves just "Calvinists" are more dispy in their thinking. Is that anywhere near right?

I'm seeing differences only in Covenantal vs. dispy and infant baptism vs. believers baptism. Is that right?

So, I'm mixed up, because without a further study in covenantal vs dispy, I'd say I lean more towards coventantal BUT i do not believe in infant baptism--although I'm not AGAINST it per se, i just don't see scriptural proof for it. I don't think it can hurt, but if I baptised my children as infants, I would also want them to be baptised as believers, so they can show their obedience when they make that choice to follow Christ.

Make sense?

So I'm sort of a reformed, sort of a Calvinist. LOL I'm more confused by the minute!

I believe in the Doctrines of Grace ..TULIP....therefore I am what is called a Calvinist.
On the point of Covenant theology I think many aspects are Biblical , God does love families..........Noah , Abraham etc , but on the signs of the New Covenant I believe that Baptism is for the repentant.

And no , I don't feel at all confused ;)

Ok, you and I agree completely on that one. But can I call myself reformed? Or do I just "claim" Calvinism? I agree with TULIP, but as far as Covenant theology vs Dispensational theology--I can't say. I'm definately not a pre, mid, or post mill rapturist though. I'd have to say, I'm more towards amill or preterist, or partial preterist. I'm still studying that.

I guess labels are just that , It isn't what we call ourselves that matters it's what is our understanding of the Bible.

I consider myself within the Puritan tradition of understanding Scripture , but I differ from most of them on the issue of Law.
I believe the Law of God is laid down for the sinner not the Saint , I believe the Christian Fullfills the law by first being set free from it and by obeying the New Law of Christ.
