  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Reformatting Help Needed Urgently !!

Greetings & Happy New Year All :)

I have 2 installs of XP Pro on one of my hard drives - partitions "C" & "G"

I would now like to get rid of XP on partition "C" and in it's place install 2000 whilst maintaining XP on "G" ("C" is getting "junkie" and "G" isn't). Is this possible, if so how ?

I'm thinking if i install 2000 on "C" that there may be boot up problems ??

Your quick response to my dilemma is most appreciated !

Just format that partition in the menus, Before you do that though I would move any data that I want to keep from C to G.

A Better solution (Though It will cost you about $80) is get a new harddrive, and Install on that. FYI 80G Harddrive run about $50 After Rebates right now.

Thanks pgp for the quick response - much appreciated !

The thing i'm worried about is that i'll not be able to boot into "G" once i format & install 2000 on "C" OR will Windows take care of that since i'm installing 2000 before XP ??

And yes, i've backed up all i need off of "C"

Happy New Year all,

Yes it will leave residual data in your MBR. Use the uninstall windows feature and then reformat the partition if need be.

1. Go to ->Start ->Control Panel >Add or Remove Programs.

2. Select Windows XP Uninstall if applicable (upgrade).

3. Click on the Change/Remove button.

4. Choose Uninstall Windows XP and click on Continue.

You may also just try to install the new OS over the old if you are not able to do the above for some reason. I’m only guessing but they both being a Microsoft distribution it will recognize XP and take the correct steps to uninstall it properly as if it were an upgrade situation.
