• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is anyone else now getting redirection errors when trying to access the CF home page or the forum list ( /forums/ ).

This seems to be the same issue from early March, and which only affected people in the UK and some European countries.

Is this a conspiracy to prevent access to CF from the UK and Europe?

I have raised a ticket, but if anyone else has similar problems, then please also raise a ticket (stating your country), so that the CF technical folk have an idea of the extent of the problem.

Technical:
The home page is returning 302 redirect to its self (so, after going around in a circle several times, your browser notices and displays an error message).
The /forums/ page redirects to the home page, then goes around in circles until your browser gets fed up.

Yep.
I have to search my history to get in. And even then, I can only access certain pages.

It's been nearly a fortnight since I reported the issue, but so far have had no reply.

As far as I can tell, this is a configuration issue is with Cloudflare.

Too many redirects happen if:

Trying to access home page (https: //www .christianforums .com) or a first level page (e.g. https: //www .christianforums .com/forums/ )
and
Using a desktop browser (but not a tablet or smartphone). Affects MacOS and Windows; Firefox, Chrome & Safari
and
From UK or (previously) other European countries
To test, you need to be in the UK or other European countres. Or use a VPN. But Cloudflare will sometimes block VPN's. I suspect that all the technical support is US based, so will not experience the problem unless they use a VPN or buy some plane tickets.

I realise this is the wrong sub-forum, but don't know of a more suitable one. If the Mods want to move it to somewhere better, please do.

I had an issue getting to the board with Google awhile back (The google link would just take me to a placeholder page) I asked in the "Questions about CF" forum and got an answer. That forum is here --> Questions about CF

So far, that issue has been resolved for me.

I do get advertisement pop-up's after most clicks now and multiple times a visit the board has to make sure I'm human. Particularly if I open one one forum on one tab and another forum on another tab.

The board has also been lagging lately and sometimes the entire page will not load. For example, I may just get text and hyperlinks with no background. - so something still seems a little askew from time to time. I'm in the US.

I am getting these redirect error messages again. I keep trying every day, and today, although the error message did appear for a second or two, it was quickly replaced by the CF home page, which is how I am able to reply now. I did raise a ticket about the problem, but the only answer I got was a suggestion to use VPN to pretend that I am in the United States! I really don't want to do that, as I don't know how that would affect my access to UK sites, such as those I use for online shopping. So I will just carry on with my intermittent access.

Note: My ability to access Christian Forums is very intermittent, so if you reply and I don't respond, please don't think I'm ignoring you.

This issue also affects Australian users.

Suggesting using a VPN is not a valid solution. Most people do not have a VPN (I did for just a month earlier in the year, so as to get access to UK sites when away. But not now). Yes, a VPN pointing to the USA will restrict access to some UK sites, including the BBC. Possibly (I hope) some banking apps might get suspicious if someone is accessing their bank account from York, then 5 minutes later, trying to access it from New York. You can keep changing the VPN destination, but this is inconvenient. And a VPN is all or nothing - it redirects all IP traffic from your computer/phone/whatever. So you cannot (usually) use different destinations for different applications, e.g. one browser set to be via USA (for CF) and a different browser for UK sites.

Fixing the problem requires access to the backend, which the mods do not have.
