I truly appreciate the beautiful graphics of American NDNs. As many of you already know, I like to share them myself, and have done so in the CF Gallery. I hope each of you has a blessed week, and a good day today. I will be back online later on today. I have a doctor's appointment this morning. I will talk to you later. Please continue to pray for me and my family. I cannot express enough just how much I appreciate each of you and how I am blessed by your friendships and by Christian Forums itself.

Be Blessed,
Red Fox

Native American Indian Wisdom:

Like the grasses showing tender faces to each other,
thus should we do,
for this was the wish of the Grandfathers of the World.

Black Elk

Really beautiful words.
God, help us live by them.

It is a good day to be indigenous!

February 25 - Daily Feast

When we stop fretting we gain more ground. If we can stop trying to control everything with our minds and let it go, even for a little while, we will get a clearer view. There is wisdom in the words, "Having done all, stand." Do what can be done, build faith, know there is a Great Holy Spirit that knows even the very smallest thing we need. At this point, everything will challenge us, but just let it slide away, let it dissolve from inattention. The greatest steps are taken when we decide not to thrash out, not to hate and resent and lose ourselves in the confusion. Put it all down and walk away to something totally different. Having done all, stand, and refuse to be drawn back into a place of no peace.

~ The man who sat on the ground in his tipi meditating on life and its meaning, accepting the kinship of all creatures and acknowledging unity with the universe of things, was infusing into his being the true essence of civilization. ~

I usually share this in my blog but did not do so over the weekend. I need to get it caught up, I suppose. Thank you for sharing it here though. Please continue to do so whenever you can. My husband's parents were here over the weekend. We all went to see Dave Ramsey (know who he is?) in Dallas on Saturday. We had the whole day to ourselves. It was wonderful. I enjoyed the time away from the house. My children did quite well on their own.

YES I know who Dave Ramsey is! He's the christian "money man" who believes in no debt and living within our means! I love the way that he counsels people to keep a clean credit rating but have no debt, and I'm proud to say that dear hubby and I have no debt, we own everything that we possess, and we have one credit card that we use for dire emergencies only. It helps SO MUCH in our marriage to not have money fights due to overspending and debt--so my opinion of Mr. Ramsey is pretty high! I think my one and only disagreement with him is that right now I would not invest in the stock market in any kind of way (even for retirement reasons). But that is more an economics disagreement than one of philosophy. The philosophy of saving, and how savings multiply, and saving for old age/retirement is a SOUND philosophy that too many Americans don't understand or use.

Yes, Dave is the Christian 'money man,' and God is changing millions of people's lives through his Financial Peace ministry. I cannot express enough just how much my marriage has been changed and blessed since my husband and I have been in this money management program. We have been on his program for one year now, and we are almost out of debt. We have only one more credit card to pay off. We are now on a cash basis, with no credit cards. We only use our debit cards for gasoline and to get our cash out of the bank. We have no car payments either. We own all our cars. Dave Ramsey's ministry has changed our lives, and our family tree. My husband and I no longer have those awful money fights either. We even encouraged his parents to give Dave a try, taking them to see him was part of their Christmas from us. We all really enjoyed it. Once we sell my husband's car, we will be able to pay off our last credit card debt. We are really excited about that. We can hardly wait to call him on his radio show to tell him we are debt free. My husband and I both admire Dave for sharing his faith as openly as he does, and for his personal testimony. We have been truly blessed by God and through this ministry.

This is my gripe, the lack of respect and acknowledgement this nation obviously has of American Indians. November was National American Indian Heritage Month. Yet, I did not see it mentioned once on the local or national news, no articles in local or national (non-native) newspapers, no displays were set up of famous American Indians in Wal-Mart, chain bookstores, or even in the numerous libraries my children and I frequent.

And yet... February is Black American History Month. This has been mentioned frequently with related stories on the local and national news; there have been plenty of related articles in local and national newspapers, and there are displays set up now in the local Wal-Mart, chained bookstores, and even in the libraries I frequent of famous African Americans. And there been numerous National Channels running programs on famous African Americans and other related programs.

Am I the only one who considers this to be revealing of the ongoing prejudice toward American Indians in our society? What do you think? How do you think American Indians are being portrayed in our society? Is it positive or negative, in your opinion? We can only combat prejudices if we acknowledge their existence. We can no longer afford to stick our heads in the sand and remain silent. We must speak out. We must talk.

So, I must ask, why is there so much emphasize placed on commemorating African Americans and not hardly any placed on American Indians? Let us look for a moment at Mexicans (Hispanics?) (legal and illegal). Our government does go out of its way to accommodate and be politically correct to these particular minorities. Is this the case or am I just being overly sensitive? Are American Indians not worthy of such recognition or accommodation or should there be no such treatment of any particular race? What do you think?

Hi Red Fox,

As I was looking around today in the many different areas that are on the Christian Forms website, I came across your post here where you mentioned an American NDN holiday.

Your question was one I felt compelled to answer.

This is what I believe to be the reason why the feds will not give America, an American NDN federally recognized holiday, with holiday pay.

It is because it would be an annual reminder, and a slap in the face once a year, to the federal government for stealing this land from the 1st Americans.

And that would remind many Americans of how the federal government attempted to totally wipe out an entire people as they killed their men and boys, raped the women and girls, and the prisoner of war camps they called reservations, the boarding schools, cutting off their hair, punishing the children for speaking their own language, and the beginning of the Trail of Tears that began in 1831 in Mississippi among the Choctaw who were the first to be forced to leave their homeland and go to NDN Territory that would later become Oklahoma.

The federal government does not want to be reminded once a year about The American NDN Holocaust that they were responsible for.

And The Bering Straight story was a lie conceived by the federal government in their attempt to justify their theft of the land, which they hide under the title of Manifest Destiny.

That’s my two bucks.

God bless you in Christ,

I do not feel, in anyway, that your post needs to be deleted, or even edited. Your words are truth, and I had not thought of it or even seen it from this point of view. I suppose I should have, being Cherokee and Choctaw myself. Thank you, my friend, for your response. I truly appreciate it. And I welcome you to my Talking Circle!

Be Blessed,
Red Fox

Amen, Garden.

The dead silence concerning Native Americans in U.S. is deafeningly LOUD.

I pray to Father God that healing and reconciliation will be released. We lift up our hands to You, Father, and ask for your intervention on behalf of Native Americans. We ask this because we KNOW that You are a fair and just God. We will not stop asking and will not give up. In Jesus name, Amen.

If I may ask, do the program cost anything?
I am curious, and we're looking to be able to budget better.
