• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I suffered from server depression over issues I'd rather not talk about but needless to say, I have been through a suprising amout, and I thank God for every bit of it because it means I can properly empathise with people, using my stories as testiment... It took me many many years to even think about getting over it. From when I was young I was quite depressed and as I got older, things got worse.

Two years ago I tried to commit suicide, pills and alcohol, cutting myself. What is amazing is that I am still alive today and this reasures me that God has a purpose for me. And it also means I am able to provide support and just another testimony like in boards such as this.

I went through many psychiatrists, I refused to take anti-depressants and, more than anything, I wollowed in it.

I won't deny, I am still not totally fine now but there are a few things that help. These techniques work for me and might not for other people but I will share them anyway...

A big part of depression comes from perspevtive. If you get up in the morning, wishing you never woke up, then it's likely that things through the day will affect you a lot. I find that if you get up, put some rock or mettle music on, basically anything that puts you in a good mood or even slightly wound up. Take a shower, have a cup of coffe, chill out. Start the day on a good note and you've won half the battle.

Public opinion can affect a person a lot so rather than spending half an hour every morning doing your hair or stressing over what people might think of what you are wearing, just leave it go. Don't worry about what other people think about you, dress in what makes you comfertable, wear your hair in however you like it despite comments from others. At the end of the day, there is only one or two people who you should care about opinion, and that's God and our Lord Christ, if you're doing something they don't like, then stop, lol. But when it comes down to clothes and stuff, try not to worrie about what other people think.

Remember, your body is his temple, so treat it with respect, so if you're thinking about doing anything... silly... don't! Lol.

But seriously, it's amazing what some good music in the morning combined with ignoring peoples insults can do...

And finally, it usually helps to talk to someone and if it's a matter of you haven't got anyone to talk to, or you are uncomfertable about talking to friends, then there is an entire website here of people who would be willing to help and while I might not be able to vouch for them, I can cirtainly vouch for myself, so feel free to message me...

Catch ya later. Take care. God bless.

Gelert, I agree! I have recovered from depression as well. I found that forcing myself to pretend to be happy and forcing myself to have positive thoughts lead me to have genuine happy feelings and positive thinking became a new habit. I also had to force myself to get up and get out for a while, but it gradually got easier and easier.

Just curious, do you exercise? I found that exercising helped a lot, too.

Yes, I do exercise quite a lot. I go to the gym three times a week, I teach karate twice a week and a train in karate twice a week. While I don't find the gym to help, I will admit training in karate does. It allows all those comments that you are unable to let fly above your head, the ones that you remember and make you angry or upset, it gives you a chance to vent those. Maybe not while sparing (practice fighting) with someone (since that could be dangerous), but at least in line up.

I am sure the gym would help if I didn't do karate for that very reason, similar to other people who exersise. They are able to push themslvs further while at the same time, venting their negative feelings in a safe and actually benifitial way.
