I have two friends who identify themselves as Reconstructionists and Partial Preterists. They used to attend my church until it got too simplistic for them. Guess the grace of God was getting old. Partial preterists are those who dispute the most widely held dating of the book of Revelation saying the future prophecies refer to the soon coming destruction of the temple, not the end times.

I have talked to them many, many times about how the Mosiac Law will be implemented on this earth again. They define that as the coming of the Kingdom of God and say that the world will get better and better leading up to this time. WHAT???? They admit that currently it heading in the opposite direction making them firmly believe we have perhaps thousands of years before this happens.

One of their Bible teaching heros is R.C. Sproul. He certainly has Reconstructionist ties and also came out as holding a Preterist view.

I'm just not sure what you are referring to. The only things I've heard have to do with the traditions and free speech rights of our culture. We are majority Christian are many of us are resistant to having God dismissed from the public square. That does not make us reconstructionists. Reconstructionism is pretty foriegn.

I also know people in this movement. I do not hold to their beliefs but I have looked at them a little and while I cannot accept their interpretation of Revelation (we might as well tear it out of the Bible if we go along with their interpretation), I do think we have something to learn from them.

I think that there are likely groups of reconstructionists that are close to wackos, but the ones I know are very solid, productive members of society. They usually home school their children and do a very good job of it. They normally start their own businesses rather than work for someone else. They believe very firmly in being "salt and light" in the world so that they help the needy on a one to one basis rather than on a corporate level. Sometimes they have "home churches" and others conservative presbyterian churches.

The most important thing I have learned from them is to stop focusing so much on prophecy. Yes, Christ can return tomorrow and the rapture could happen at any moment, but our job is to live for the Lord right here, right now. We need to practice christianity and plan for our families and our future as if Christ may not return for 1000 years.

I agree w/your entire quote. We have fascinating discussions and they *do* stretch my mind. They are deep thinkers on their own. I need help to get there. LOL

We have homeschooling in common besides our Christian faith. They attend a Conservative Presb church, leaving a Calvary Chapel in search of it. And as Hank Hanagraff says so frequently: In essentials unity, in non-essentials charity. Or something close to that.

Something that really does puzzle me about them is how theyALWAYS bring this up out of the blue that their pastor and other men in their church got together for a Bible Study and brought along their beer and wine! OK!! Don't know if they want me to be jealous, or offended or what. Does this run common in your experience w/your friends or is it just a peculiarity of my friends?

Blessings to you.

Reconstructionists teach that the 10 Commandments and the other 603 Mosiac laws are the basis of English and American law thus one of their goals is to have the 10 enacted as our civil law. Having them posted in public places would be a first step. Baptists and others who fight to have the 10 posted are working for Reconstructionism even if they don't realize it. Why do Christians want to have Jewish law posted in public places?
