  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That's easy, The Book of Mormon.

For the LDS its the keystone of our religion and is what seperates us from others. With study of its pages it will lead us to Christ when we approach it with a humble heart.

Without the Book of Mormon this church falls just as when the keystone is removed. Without it we are just another church.

But the BoM says nothing about plurality of gods, baptism for the dead, endowment ceremonies, marriage for time and eternity, or exaltation. So it misses the main distinctions of Mormonism.

Book of Enoch.

For some reason Jude quotes it, and alludes to it as if he really believed it was scripture.

Weird, isn't it?

-Jason
He doesn't allude to it as if it were scripture. He alludes to it as something the people he was speaking to were familiar with.

I can't limit myself to one, so I'll give 3. You seem fair minded and an avid reader.

The Cross and the Parousia by Max King
Who is this Babylon by Don Preston
Before Jerusalem Fell by Ken Gentry

Interestingly enough hermeneutics is the main thrust in all three.

Who is the Babylon is one of the best in my estimation.

The BofM follows its thesis statement (title page) vey well and this is the purpose for the book. It was not intended to be a comprehensive explanation of ALL the LDS beliefs.

A simple analogy would be:

The BofM brings one to Christ.

The D&C brings one to Christ's church.

I really don't want to get in a debate about this on this thread since I think this is beyond Serapha's intent: What book and why

Sorry, I forgot the why.

Cross and Parousia: In depth study and the logical conclusions of the change in the age in the first century.

Who is this Babylon: Addresses the terms used to describe the unfaithful from the Old Testament Scriptures and compares their use in the NTS.

Before Jerusalem Fell: The best analysis of the internal and external data for the date of the writing of Revelation.
