another book walked into my door today.
_Evolution from Creation to New Creation: Conflict, Conversation, and Convergence_
Ted Peters Martinez Hewlett

i bought it simply because i know Dr. Hewlett as a talented professor and a deeply thoughtful man. I had expected simply to skim it and get back to my current reading....

well, it is one of a rather limited number of books that you can recommend to just about anyone. Very well written, detailed and careful analysis, but not so scientific that people will complain about the difficulty, it is an introductory work to the spectrum of beliefs possible to Christians on the relationship to Darwinian evolutionary science. A survey with careful attention to individuals and how their views fit into the topic, several topnotch schematics to help get a handle on the field, it really is a good place to start. This reflects the fact that Dr. Hewlett is a great communicator and the book shows this desire to be understood.

Pleasant surprise it being so good, i guess it is now my #1 recommendation for people to get a handle on the creation-evolution-design debate.

ps.
it would be nice to work on an FAQ-sticky for recommended books

No, it was a serious question. If the book puports to provide a history of evolution, but someone who reads it still knows almost nothing about evolution, then what does that say about the book?

My guess is that it either spends very little time actually discussing evolutionary theory itself (focusing on its evil heritage and equally evil propogation) or it misstates evolution dramatically.

One of these must be true (rather than it being an issue just with mhess), since everyone who I have spoken with who has read this book has been equally uninformed about what evolution really says.

Evolutionist tactic #768. "when someone disagrees with you and or doesn't believe in evolution, say that they don't know what evolution is. Repeat loudly and often that they do not understand what evolution really teaches"
No, there is no need to do this, since it is always obvious from their posts. But I really must admit that I do not recall the specific posts you made which revealed this lack of understanding, only that something you said in the past led me to that conclusion. If you would like to confirm that you do understand what evolution says, then feel free.

But I can almost guarantee you that you did not get a true understanding from Morris, which is the point I was making.

Look man, the point of my post was to recommend a book. rmwilliams recommended a book so I did as well. Why couldn't this just be a thread for people to recommend books? Why do you have to turn everything into an argument? You sure are full of pride.

Not pride. But definitely zeal for the truth. But you are correct, this should have remained a post to recommend books. One thing that triggered my response was that someone else entirely ignorant of evolution has recently been touting this book.
