Hello.
For a long time I have very much been into some extremely dark and violent or otherwise obscene rap, such as that by d12, eminem, dr. dre, kendrick lamar, trick trick, 50 cent, and so on. Out of them I'd say D12 is my favorite, but they've advocated about every evil you could think of in their songs.
They're not being serious most of the time but I don't think that really matters. I know listening to stuff this violent is a sin:
Do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
-- Romans 6:13
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
-- Philippians 4:8
These are only two examples of bible verses on this issue.
The devil has been gaining an ever stronger foothold in my life because I keep making the choice to turn my back to God. I don't want to turn my back to God anymore.
I don't even know where to start because I do so many wrong things all the time, but I guess changing my music listening habits is one thing to try.
So I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for good rap/R&B artists that I could listen to instead of the individuals/groups I listed above. They don't have to be Christian groups, I just want some good R&B to listen to that isn't going to further intensify my hatred and erode my humanity. In other words, no graphic violence, no blasphemy, no glorification of evil, no constant profanity, no explicit sex.
Thanks.
