It's usually said during the course of one's daily prayers.

As it appears in my prayer book:

Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, O virgin Theotokos! For blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, for Thou hast borne the Savior of our souls.

Having been a Catholic for many years and now a Protestant for several..and looking at the Hail Mary prayer Catholics recite..The first part of the prayer is scriptural..that is the words of the angel Gabriel to Mary as you can see below.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Luke 1:28
"And he [the angel Gabriel] came to her [Mary] and said, 'Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.'"
Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.and...

Luke 1:41-42
"When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry, 'Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.'"

Re: the last part of the traditional "Hail Mary" prayer:

"Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. " In this..
Catholics ask Mary and other saints to intercede for them to God on their behalf, in much the same way Protestants, Jews and many other religions ask other people to pray for them or for loved ones. Catholics believe that saints (canonized by the church) are particularly well-suited to intercede on a person's behalf.

I have come to believe that praying directly to God is the better way; but I don't have a problem with Catholics who ask Mary to pray for them as long as they are not worshiping her instead or along with her son, Jesus. As a Catholic I was never taught to do so; but often it was implied by some people's excessive devotions and prayers written and also by the emphasis on the apparitions attributed to Mary. Also worship of Mary is practiced more in some cultures than others. It was never done in mine. Teachings giving her unscriptural status I learned to reject over the years.

Good thing that isnt an issue...since it is forbidden by the Church.

KNOWLEDGE BOMB replies: yes but Mary and their saints are dead while we ask believers who are alive to pray for us - a huge difference!

It's a prayer that can be done in private or with the community. Besides the Rosary, I pray the Hail Mary here and there.

As for this:

God is the God of the living, not of the dead. I have no problem in believing Christ when He said that he who believes in Him has eternal life.

No Christian is dead, period. All Christians are around us as a cloud of witnesses.

As for OP I pray the standard Hail Mary:

Hail Mary, full of grace.
Our Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

No it doesn't. If all saints sleep, why does revelation show all the saints awake and crying to god in heaven prior to that? Why do Christ's parables show the dead as awake and aware? Why has the church historically never taught soul sleep?

Again The bible teaches saints are those who are alive believers while you Catholics say that's not true saints are Catholics who have died and did some miracles which the bible NEVER mentions!

Also the dead and living part you quote (in error) is about saints are alive and non believers are dead (to Christ) and not as you use it.

This is also why Jesus says let the dead bury the dead (unbelievers bury unbelievers)

This is also addressed at 1Thess 4:13-14

the bible teaches we sleep until Christ is revealed from Heaven - Paul tells all believers to WAIT with Them - so since Jesus has NOT be revealed from Heaven how do you then call him a liar and say Mary or the pope is in Heaven? Since we sleep - this puts an end to praying to your saints!

I can supply more than 10 verses that say we sleep and I would but would it make you believe different when you found the word taught something other than your RCC? No ofcourse not!

Was Not able dead when His BLOOD cried out to God? Yes (Gen 4:10)

Also these saints under the altar are those killed during the (time of) tribulation in Jerusalem during the last 7 years.

Can't help what the church teaches but I do Know what the word teaches about after death of both believers and non alike!

What parable are you speaking of that teaches otherwise?

Then you should submit. Christ said the gates of hell shall not prevail against the church. Certainly it isn't the case that it was wrong for all these centuries until the recent invention of soul sleep.

So if I showed you verses that say we sleep - will you then show me verses that say we don't?

Saying the gates of Hell won't prevail against the church has Nothing to do with if we sleep or not - if that was you intention....

Have you ever watched ewtn and seen pray the rosary with mother Angelica?

The sisters who repeat after her look so dead..... So why do you say this over and again when we know what the bible says about Vain repetitions? God wants prayers from your heart NOT pre-written ones that are Not your own....

If the bible says there's ONE mediator between GOD and MAN and that's Jesus Christ
this clearly means that there is:

1. Only ONE - Jesus
2. Mary is NOT in this verse YET you include her in spite of that fact?
