• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi all.
I just want to introduce myself here. I admitted myself to a mental hospital last month for six days, and was diagnosed with major depression and social anxiety. I was put on 50 mg Zoloft which seems to be working, at least for the depression.
I go see a therapist on Wednesday -- I'm excited but a little nervous too -- not really sure what to expect.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi, and hope I can find support here. :)

It's good you're seeking the help you want and need.

The first session is usually a lot of questions and answers - an evaluation session. Many times the real work begins the 2nd session after the therapist has an overall picture of what you feel you need to work on and what issues they hear from you.

Feel free to ask whatever questions you need to ask. Finding a good therapist is like shopping for anything we want - it requires looking until we find the right one for us.

May God bless you this week as you seek this help.

In Him,
Kristen

That's a great start! It takes courage to admit that you have a problem. Never forget that.

I like to suggest you pick up a bible and give it a good read. I suggest an NLT, New Living Translation, life application. Yes I am provoking studies into our God and Lord, but there is a great benefit to it. Wisdom and principles are very fruitful. They can make you stronger and help you stay out of depression.

Luke 6:46-49
Building on a Solid Foundation

46 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? 47 I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. 48 It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. 49 But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”

Welcome to the boards and feel free to ask for help or vent your feelings. Lot good folks here to help you.

You didnt say what kind of therapy it was. There are different approached to councelling, as there are different schools of psychological thought.

I've had humanistic councelling before, dont be fooled by the name it just means that you'll do most of the talking with the councellor "paraphrasing" or repeating back to you what you said for you to explore your thoughts. I found it very helpful.

Just bear in mind, if you have deep rooted problems, that you may start to feel depressed again when you start to let things out that have been hidden for a long time. This is normal, and a good therapist will be able to help you through it.

Hope it goes well
