  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

isnt "never ending math equation" a great song? its fun What songs do you like from it?

Oh yes, it is a great song. I'm partial to "All Nite Diner" and "Broke" because they were two of the first MM songs I was exposed to. ("Broke" has such beautiful lyrics.) I also enjoy "Sleepwalkin'"...very different from other MM material.

I noticed that you purchased The Moon and Antartica. Although I love the entire album (the best pre-Good News album in my opinion) my favorites are "3rd Planet", "Gravity Rides Everything", "Dark Center of the Universe", "Tiny Cities Made of Ashes", "Wild Pack of Family Dogs", "Paper Thin Walls", and "Lives". What about yourself?

from building something out of nothing, I think "medication" is a cool song. espcially when it picks up, the "and I don't know...."

I think "gravity rides everything" is an awesome song. its pretty addicting, more so then float on. My favorite songs from that album is "dark center of the universe", "3rd planet" "I came like a rat"
the beginngin to "the stars are projectors" is pretty cool.
But my favorite MM song is still "the view" from "Good news......"

I gave that song another listen. Building Nothing is the album I've listened to the least, but that song is really cool.

I agree. "Float On" isn't a bad song, but I don't think it is anywhere near one of their best. The mainstream decided to embrace "Float On" for some reason, probably because of frequent MTV play. "Gravity Rides Everything" is very catchy and a lot of fun to sing along to.

I like all of those as well. :)

I have a feeling that that will be their next single...I've heard it played a bit on Sirius radio. I love the part in the song that starts with "as life gets longer, awful feels softer". I'd be kind of disappointed if they didn't eventually release "Black Cadillacs" or "Bury Me With It". The mainstream is missing out on MM's more intense side.

Good News... certainly has a lot of good stuff on it. Personally I think my favourite MM song is White Lies Yellow Teeth.

I looked up the lyrics/discography on that song, and it seems like it would be a tough one to find. The lyrics seem pretty cool though. My favorite song of theirs is "Bankrupt on Selling".

yep, I thought that "the view" will be their next single. because its "light sounding" if that makes any sense; its not as intense like you put it. its catchy. Also, it was the song they played when they made an "appearance" on the show the O.C.
I love the part "....well I feel pretty blissfullly"
Whats super cool about the popularity of float on, is it got people (like myself) interested in the band. Now, they are one of the bands I listen to the most, up there with dmb.

oh yeah. it is fun to sing along to. this is kind of lame, but I love listening to it while I walk to school in the morning, espcially the part, "I wanna go back to sleep" it just catches that early morning mood so well. lol

MM will be on Austin City Limits coming up. I am excited to see it.

Yeah, I watched the OC just to see them play. I was very happy to see them play "Paper Thin Walls", but I was very disappointed by how the "crowd" didn't even seem to care that much about the concert. ;) And yeah, "The View" is definitely easier for MTV to swallow. "Black Cadillacs" is probably a long shot because of the F-bomb dropped 20 seconds into the song, but MM uses profanity well and appropriately.

Yeah, I was only familiar with 10-20 of their songs before I bought Good News. I planned on buying one of their old cds before that, but I hesitated because they are hard to find at a reasonable price, and because they have so many albums.

I noticed that in my Modest Mouse newsletter. I'm sure it will be great.

Yeah, that's the only way I knew to watch. I actually purchased the Moon and Antartica for $10 as well, but had to shell out $15 for some of their others...even on half.com. I need to change my sig, but my favorite lyrics of theirs wouldn't be acceptable for CF and it costs too much to change it too often. ;)

I just bought 12 Stones - Potter's Field (a little dissapointed in it, but it was on sale for $8.50 at Wal Mart) and I ordered Spoken - A Moment of Imperfect Clarity for my girlfriend to give me for Valentines day. :D I can't wait to get that Spoken CD. She's supposed to be getting me 3 Doors Down's latest release too.
