  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

And I got it used! ^_^

Ahhh. A Ghost Is Born recieved mediocre reviews because it is mediocre.

YHF is a good album... but I don't think it's quite thier best. PARTS of YHF are the best thing they've done... but it's not their best work as a whole cohesively.

It may not be as good as YHF on the whole, but some songs ("Wishful Thinking", "Company in My Back") are the best Wilco songs I've heard.

What is your favorite album? I heard that "A.M." isn't anything special, and "Being There" is a little too country for me to get into on the whole.

Dude, Being There is awesome.

Though, if you're not fond of the "country" feel and you haven't heard summerteeth, you definitly should.

I didn't like AM for the longest time. But a year or so ago I just sat through the whole thing while reading a write up on the album in The Wilco Book and it clicked with me. Still not an album I ever crave to listen to... but a decent alt country album.

Back to Being There... on disc one, songs like "Misunderstood" (who's ending is amazing.. especially live!), should really appeal to the fans of YHF and A Ghost Is Born. "Monday" is just a great all-out rocker. "Red-eyed and Blue" has this an empty room feel with it's ringing piano and acoustic guitar before it kicks it up a notch with some cool bar-room guitar and piano licks and some sweet whistling. Despite the banjo "What's The World Got In Store" is definitely not a country song and is just a great indie rock song. "Hotel Arizona" has some fun, New Pornographers-esque "doo do de doos" on the chorus.

of the 4 country songs on disc one, "Forget The Flowers" is a pretty damn fine song regardless what genre of music you wrap it up in. "I got You (At the End of The Century)" shall be put into this category, too, even though it's rocking, has a fun anthemy sing-a-long chorus, and some sweet as hell hand-claps. "Say You Miss Me" has a simply outstanding vocal performance.

disc two may lean a little bit more country... but it has songs like "Outta Mind (Outta Sight)", "Kingpin," "why would you wanna live", "the lonely 1", and "dreamer of my dreams".

it just shocks me to hear blackwasp call "Being There" too country. How do you enjoy any indie music at all, then??

By the time Summerteeth rolls around most of the country sound has been purged and it is just a really good indie-pop album.

I don't follow. I don't think "Being There" is bad at all, but I have a harder time getting into the alt-pop-country stylings. Some of the musicianship on the album is just too poppy (and predictable). "Misunderstood" is probably my favorite track off "Being There"...probably because it reminds me of "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart", "Reservations", and "At Least That's What You Said".

Yeah, that will probably be my next purchase. You can pretty much chalk it up.

Thanks for the breakdown, Jacob. :)

The album as a whole is sorta confusing...I think there's a story in it but trying to find it and connect it is crazy...
