"For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me." Rom 1

Paul's Damascus road experience included Ananias putting his hands on him. Immediately the scales fell off Paul's eyes and he received his sight. Then he was filled with the Holy Ghost. Acts 9:10-19. So Paul had an understanding about impartation and the laying on of hands. The disciples of Ephesus is one example of Paul's laying on of hands (Acts 19:1-6). Plus "Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands." II Tim 1:6 "Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery." I Tim 4:14

Laying on of hands is one way of impartation in both OT and NT:

"Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him; so the children of Israel heeded him, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses." Deut 34:9

"Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment." Heb 6:2

There's impartation by being with specific others. Even King Saul when he was hunting David prophesied as did others when they got close to a school of prophets (I Sam 19). Of course, God's purpose could have been to protect David thereby overcoming Saul with the spirit of prophesy. It made Saul go from rage and desiring to kill David to prophesying and having a Godly experience that lasted a day and a night.(II Kings 2). Of course, the more time we spent with our Heavenly Father, He imparts to us. It made Moses' face shine. They said of Jesus' disciples that they could tell they had been with Him.

If someone today acted like Elisha did after Elijah, they would definitely be considered a nut case. It doesn't manner how persistent Elisha was if it wasn't Yahweh's will, it wouldn't have happened. However, Elijah had an anointing of Yahweh's to impart. So impartation has to be done with the leading of The Holy Spirit.

1. Quote by now faith: "So Bob yes you have to be on the front line, not a Sunday bench warmer".

This is a good piece of suggestion and is the truth. God grants spiritual gifts to those who are faithful in the little.

2. Quote by GreatistheLord: "can I get that by staying at home? Surely not.I need some anointed hands on me, no?"

Sadly many local churches do not either believe in impartation or have imparters. And that is why many Christians travel places.

3. Quote by now faith: "God is in your home your heart, but your mind will wonder,so pray and then listen you may not have a mighty experience spiritually, but you may slowly move into the manifestation of the Holy Spirit".

This is a very good suggestion.

4. Quote by GreatistheLord: "I want to learn from the experienced".

As a humble suggestion, learning from the Lord, by His Spirit from His word would be more edifying and helpful than from the experienced. Our Lord said that everything is possible with faith. Receiving spiritual gifts are also included in this I believe.

In the New Testament, laying on of hands generally refers to being healed,or receiving the Holy Spirit.

Since there are a variety of gifts but all are from the same spirit,I would assume one would want the Baptism of the Holy Ghost to be given anything of the gifts.

If someone was sick they may want to search, but they need only to find their knees.

True the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the objective evidence of speaking in tongues is the basic platform over which spiritual gifts are imparted either directly by God or through His ministers. If I am correct, GreatistheLord believes in this as well.

Yes, I believe in an initial infilling of the Spirit at conversion, and a further baptism of the Spirit, and also an impartation by the laying on of hands. Gifts can come at any of these times, and all these events can I suppose occur simultaneously, but it is good to define them.

1. Quote: "and a further baptism of the Spirit":

GreatistheLord, nice to hear the truth on the baptism of the Spirit. Further, is there scriptural evidence for a difference between the “initial infilling” and “further baptism of the Spirit”? Does “initial infilling” have Biblical references?

2. Quote: "also an impartation by the laying on of hands":

Does impartation happen "only" by the laying of hands? Does the Bible say so? I would like to meditate further on this. Hope GreatistheLord could add some light.

I think the popular verse for supporting this is Eph 1:13

"Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession - to the praise of his glory"

We are marked by the Holy Spirit at conversion, as the disciples were, but they were still told to wait until they received power, at Pentecost, when they were baptised.

In Acts 19, Paul meets some believers, who already have this deposit of the Holy Spirit in them, and asks them a question...

There he found some disciples 2 and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when[a] you believed?”

The implication being, there was a separate baptism of the Spirit, which may or may not have accompanied their salvation experience, which they then later received. There are other verses to support this as well.

If you are not sure, just ask your heavenly Father, and you will receive it.

1. Quote: “but they were still told to wait until they received power, at Pentecost”

GreatistheLord, it was true they were asked to wait. But were they told to wait to receive “power” or the Holy Spirit Himself?
RWP states, “When the Holy Ghost is come upon you (epelthontos tou hagiou pneumatos eph' humas)... The Holy Spirit will give them the "power" as he comes upon them. This is the baptism of the Holy Spirit referred to in verse Ac 1:5”.

Thus isn’t it clear that what they received at Pentecost was not “power” but the “Holy Spirit” Himself who gave them the power?

2. Quote: “"Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit”

This statement I think Brother is a macro historical reminder for the Christians in Ephesus and not a micro picture of what exactly happens at conversion. For the micro picture of what happens at conversion shouldn’t we see Acts 8: 16 where those who believed and got water baptised did not yet receive the promised Holy Spirit?

3. Quote: “There he found some disciples 2 and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?””

a. The question, “did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed” tells us that even though they believed in Christ Jesus they yet not received the Holy Spirit. Doesn’t this go to prove that “conversion” and “receiving the Holy Spirit” are distinct experiences?
b. If conversion by belief is accompanied indistinctly and definitely by the receipt of the Holy Spirit why would Paul ask them this question?
