Received as a catechumen!!!

I've been received as a catechumen! I was received this morning. It was an awesome experience. Johnathan and I were received. The prayers over use were great. I remember starkly one part, where it prays for me to let go of my "former delusions" which I found pretty powerful and very applicable to myself. I couldn't help but grin--I was so happy! Two long years, and I've finally commenced my catechesis!

I find it terribly comforting that on the Church's New Year's Eve, I was received as a catechumen. I love how that worked out like that!

I also filled with bread! I don't think I was given so much blessed bread before... even on my initial visits to the Church! I was congratulated and received warmly, and then hung out in the Fellowship Area for a bit after church. We have this thing down hear called Boomsday today... lots of fireworks tonight. Someone from church is having a party to watch the fireworks this evening, and Johnathan, the man who also was received as a catechumen, invited me.

At the end of our Liturgy we have a tradition where birthdays, namesdays, and anniversaries and such are celebrated, and they all go up the ambo and we sing "God grant you many years!" Fr. Stephen called Johnathan and I up separately, and we got a very nice and fancy "Many years!"

It's just all so exciting and amazing! Finally learning bits of liturgy, truly becoming a part of the church community.... and on the eve of the liturgical New Year!

Fr. Justin gave me a good analogy. Inquiry is dating, catechumenate is the engagement (which things become real serious), and then chrismation is the marriage ceremony.

So I'm engaged! I'm a catechumen! I gotta step it up, too! I'm such a slacker. Please pray for me!

I am happy for you Justin. Pray, pray, pray. Ask the saints to pray for you too. Study whatever your priest gives you. Ask all the questions you have. Be honest about yourself to him. This is a really big deal.

I wish we had a full time priest so we could partake in this particular ceremony. We basically come to Liturgy for a year and then are Chrismated.
