  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What is your number one reason for being a Christian?

Jesus of Nazareth.

The Jesus I encounter in the Gospels is someone I want to believe in and follow.

Christianity hinged on one thing for me. Did Jesus rise from the dead.

I dedicded that was a yes or no question. There was no doubt He existed, No doubt he suffered death on the cross.

After study of more texts than just the Bible..I came to the conclusion He did, which lead me to the conclusion He must be who He said He was...the rest is minuta..

All of these. Particularly cannot seem to walk away and I have tried and tried. If you want to know my testimony AND are mentally stable PM me. However it can be triggering and LONG. Which is why you should be mentally stable to read it.

One of the most compelling things that brought me to believe was the 70 sevens prophecy in Daniel 9. You can read about it in the book "The Coming Prince" by Sir Robert Anderson. The short version can be seen here: http://www.khouse.org/articles/2004/552/ Note that this is a very specific prophecy, with a very specific prediction of when it would come to pass. Jesus fulfilled this prophecy exactly as predicted.

What has kept me since my salvation, more than anything else, has been God's Holy Spirit indwelling me, cleansing my heart, leading and guiding me... just as promised.

Dear SPB1987. You were given a number of good reasons. May I join?
Jesus tells a Lawyer in Matthew 22: 35-40: " The first and great Commandment is: Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is like it: Love thy neighbour as thyself." Then Jesus tells us this important fact: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." Two Commandments to Love and have Charity towards each other.
Perhaps not too easy for us to follow, but it is what God wants from us. How can Love for God and neighbour grow, if we don`t even try to follow God`s two Commandments to LOVE? God is Love, and God wants our Love freely given, and NO conditions tagged on, God made us in His image and God is our Heavenly Father.
Jesus will give us His Love and Joy, and the Holy Spirit will empower us with His Love, also. Jesus told us to " ask and ye shall receive." Then we thank God and share all Love and Joy with our neighbour: all we know and all we meet, friend and not friend. ( Matthew 7: 7-8) Then we thank God and share all Love and Joy with our neighbour. We keep asking God and thanking God, and sharing all Love and Joy with all around us. People will treat us as we treat people. Love is a strong weapon, and Love will overcome all enmity and wrong behaviour. People will know whom we represent, and we will be sign-posts to God/Jesus. We might stumble or forget at times, but then we get up and carry on kindly and always with friendly words and helpful hands or words.
Love is a Christian`s great weapon, and Love will always bring Peace and Joy.
Jesus our Saviour will help and guide us: JESUS IS THE WAY. I do not only believe that, I have seen it work wonderfully on many occasions.
I say this with love, SPB1987. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

My reason for becoming a Christian was because of an experience.

My reason for renouncing my faith was because that is all it ever was. An emotional experience founded on no sort of rationality or scientific evidence.
What was the experience ? If you don't want to tell, no worries. Was it a fantastical experience or something interesting to tell, or hard to explain ? Or was it an easily dismissed/categorized one, etc. ?

God showed up. He proved Himself real to me and continues to support, provide for, and guide me every day. I would be off my nut to pretend He didn't exist!

What do you mean by "triggering"? Do you mean it is extremely startling/disturbing?

If it contains very difficult times then you have my empathy.

I'm interested in the story also.

I would like to understand why some Christians are happy in their life change and others return to their former beliefs.
