No, I want to see any of your "safety net" programs be put up for a vote by all people across the country..… NOT just decided upon by some congress members. A referendum vote.

I think you can find that out for yourself. Just run for office on a platform of eliminating Medicare and Social Security. See how far you get.

That's good. I'll just stop paying taxes. When the IRS guys show up with guns, I'll remind them of that. :D
They'll just tell you that they represent the rest of us who want you to pay your share.

Not that Jesus seems to hold responsible for doing what He told Christians to do. When you stand in front of Him, I doubt He will accept you trying to blame the government for not helping others.
I find it interesting that for some, the most important thing is not that suffering be alleviated, but that individual Christians get the credit for it.

Actually, that would result in more "liberal" results than now. Currently our population is majority Democrat. Republicans are in control because of the odd properties of the Senate and electoral college.

God could end absolutely every bit of suffering in a single moment, if He chose to. But, He does not. He, instead, tells individuals to do it to the glory of His name. God seems to want it done in such a way that it is very obvious that He gets the credit for it. That pretty well seems to mean that Christians do it in His name.

Are we just supposed to hang around and wait for that to happen?

And, these are the kinds of things that really SHOULD be popularly voted upon. (Leadership is a different thing, entirely.)

Like I said, what is important is the credit, not the actual alleviation of suffering - for some people.

Yes, it should be VERY important to any Christian that God gets the credit, especially since He told us He wants it that way.

I have, many of us have, against the stiff resistance of the Christian Right.
The Christian Right has tried to stop you from spending your own money to help people? Surprising.
Usually others would only be concerned if you were trying to use their money, not just your own.

Do you think "all people" would be willing to get out and grow their own food if they didn't give middle American farmers (who now grow their food) an effective vote? This country could not exist if only the liberals on the two coasts got to make the rules.

Guess God has a long, long time to wait then since "Christians" seem to be more opposed than any other political group in the U.S. to helping people, and even to the point of using scripture to try to justify why God is against helping the lazy poor or giving anything away for free.

We'll just pretend the book of Amos doesn't exist.

No, the Christian Right has decided that while we may give as individuals, or band together in all kinds of organizations large and small to combine our giving, we cannot band together as a nation to do it.

The problem is that banding together at a national level to do it would actually be effective, and we can't have that!

SS is not a freebee. It was a business deal whereby the government would get to use and invest a portion of every wage earner's pay... in turn agreeing for a tiny portion of the money being slowly paid back to them at a certain age. And the great deal for the government was that they got to keep it all if the payee died early (with the exception of $250 for burial)

Are you sure that is correct? "Banding together" is NOT deciding to use other people's money who have not agreed with your plans for their money.
