CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yeah, there are more than a few technical hurdles to getting posting working. I have several solutions in mind:
- The proxy logs in as you. This is rather complex, and I actually tried it before but could never get it working. It's also not necessarily the most secure thing in the world, as you would have to trust your CF login information to the proxy.
- Put a link in the app to a reply page. This is easiest and is probably how I will initially implement it. The downside is that it will require a full CF page to be loaded on a mobile device. This will take awhile over a slow data connection and will likely only work on devices with good browsers.
- A browser extension that functions as a remote. The proxy issues commands to the extension which then controls the browser. Possibly the coolest technologically, but not necessarily the most practical...

I'm using the basic version on my Samsung Seek. It's neat--- I just would like to see the forums listed as:
Area --> Forum
Takes me a long time to get down to Recovery or Christian Advice. But that's just my opinion.

Yeah, that's on the to-do list. You will probably note that the scraper picks up certain "forums" that are actually just categories to hold other forums (i.e. "Congregation"). That's because technically those are forums, but they have no threads.
I'm going to add another level of scraping for the homepage that will pull out all of the main categories. I will probably also add subforum scraping to the forum-level scraper.

tried to access (the basic version) with my dumbphone, got as far as the homepage but when I tried to load society>computers and internet I got HTTP 500 internal server error. Guessing that's on CF's side and not a glitch on the mobile software. (yeah - then got the 408 request timeout error).

They should really look into making it more mobile compatible. A lot of devices now are embedded rather than full-blown workstations.

Realistically though, there are more important things to return to full capacity and get working correctly than getting a mobile version of the site going - there's no use of a mobile version if it doesn't work right.

Thing is VBulliten & Taptalk both have plugins that make a site like this mobile without any changes to the core site, and should only take at most 1/2 hour to configure (with no down time on the site)
You upload the files to the server in its own sub directory.
Run the config script
Register the site & you'r done.

Yeah. There has been an "official" app for a few weeks now. It was just never officially announced. I think it's in beta testing or something. This application will remain operational for those people who don't have smartphones or don't want to use ForumRunner (for whatever reason). I'm thinking about perhaps transforming it into more of a service-oriented app. My main idea right now is to expose threads as RSS feeds.
