  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Muslims also say that they believe in one "god." Does that mean that because we say we believe in one "god," that we believe the same. Of course not.

So also with the word "Allah." And when the two religions define their god in radically different ways, THAT IS WHAT DETERMINES if they acclaim the same god or not.

Cool your jets. There's absolutely NO reason to be so uncharitable, and if I were you, I'd apologize to me. I'm just letting people know that "Allah" means God in Arabic, since people keep calling the Muslim God "Allah" as if it pertains only to the Muslim God. It does not; it simply means "God" in Arabic. People suggesting that "Allah" means only the Muslim God disrespect our Arab Christian brethren. Furthermore, I never said it was the same God. I'm saying that linguistically it is used for the same purposes: a God of monotheism.

LOL. That was about as straightforward and unemotional an explanation as could be given. Maybe it's someone else around here who should "cool his jets." ^_^

We all know that. It's been pointed out on these forums numerous times. Of course, that wasn't all that you were trying to say, was it??

Are you a mind reader?

Also, the fact that you used CAPSLOCK seems to underscore the fact that your jets were not cooled.

No, but I am a reader. And I'm not answering any more of these taunts BTW.

Pray tell, what context did I have in my post to suggest that our God was the same one as the Muslim God?

Looks like Albion will not post with regards to what I said.

For clarification, I merely said that the linguistic use of the word "Allah" is used by both Muslims and Christians. Anyone who mocks the word Allah does a disservice to our Christian brethren in the Middle East, and I really think people should consider that before they make mocking posts about Allah (God).

God bless from someone who studied four semesters (16 credit hours) of Arabic and earned a degree in cultural anthropology with 12 credit hours of coursework dedicated to the Middle East and religions in the Middle East.

Look, I see why anyone could be upset, but really, this goes a bit too far. Don't make posts so personal; focus only on the post and not the poster.

I do agree with your position and your post raises a very good point: Arabic-speaking Christians have been using the word "Allah" for God for well over a thousand years and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. We should not simply dismiss the fact due to a different religion using the same word.

Your post also never suggested what was falsely claimed it did.

But please do not go down to the same level. Argue with facts and let passion fly to the wind if necessary...or channel it through hard-hitting with more evidence or continued logical replies. I hope my advice is taken not insultingly but with recognition that it is merely a reminder from someone who has been in the same situation many times.

No, you speak sound advice. I get offended when people misconstrue what I write, when what I wrote was clear as day. There was no insidious meaning behind any of it, as you well can tell.
