  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I recall his statement "George Bush doesnt care about Black People".

Leaders in the church should teach that authority is to be respected. And his stunt on the Rolling Stones cover impersonating Christ. Kanye is about making money and headlines. Not what a leader in the church should be about.

Typical ignorant suburb kid who wants to be a gangsta because he wasnt cool enough to fit in with the white kids so he acted black. I answered his question because he asked, if you dont like my answer thats fine, but dont shoot off at hte mouth because someone disagrees with you.

Hmm, okay.
I was just browsing this thread, and I seen people talking about rappers having no talent.
Yeah, to be truthful...50% of them don't.
But you can't knock the other 50%.
Tupac for example. He's one of the most talented people to get in the music business itself.
If you actually sit down and listen to his lyrics, they are pretty deep and truthful.
It isn't all about making money, sex, and drugs or guns.
Kanye, as another example.
He was already talked about, I see.
But, if you went from rags to riches, I'm sure you would spend money like him too.
He's making a difference, and really...thats what matters the most.
I don't hear him talking about shooting up the block on his albums.

Lyfe Jennings.
Lupe Fiasco.
Jay Z.
Ludacris.
Promise.
etc.
All doing big things, yet making a positive difference.

Anyways, my 5 favourite rappers would have to be:
Tupac
Lyfe
Jay Z
Kanye
Lupe Fiasco
My 5 favourite songs right now would be:
Dear Mama - Tupac
Life Goes On - Tupac
Runaway Love - Ludacris
December 4th - Jay Z
S.E.X - Lyfe ( Such a great song with great lyrics. )

THANK YOU! That's what I was trying to say all along, but these numbskulls *coughcoughjacobhallcough* just dont understand. Theres a lot of rappers with talent whether u think so or not. I personally would say 40% of them have little or no talent while the other 60% do. I agree with what you are saying though.

I dont think people have been saying rappers have no tallent, but rather they dont like rap as a genre. Some people simply dont like a type of music no matter who sings it. Im that way towards rap, and country, I cant stand it, any of it, but that doesnt mean I think less of the people who listen to it.

Go to hell.
Come on now guys...we're Christians. Debating and arguing is fine but don't make comments like these. [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth]...I sound like a mum. No in all seriousness guys...I really like the fact that we're debating rap in a serious way here....but 'go to hell' and comments like 'wasn't cool enough so had to act black' - are just unecessary.

Mature answer. Some people just don't like rap. I love most genres of music but can't stand 'death metal' - bands like metallica. That doesn't mean that I don't think they have had a great influence on the world of music and are a very renowned and well-respected band; I just don't like their music.

What I think some people on here have done is disrespect and slander others music just because they cannot connect or adhere to it and that's not right because they are just expressing their art.

With regards to Kanye's comments about George Bush, I can't comment. Coming from the UK, we hear about the everyday goings on in the US but I feel I didn't see enough of this incident to comment. From what I can remember, basically the media portrayed black people as 'looting' during the horrors of Katrina while it portrayed white people as 'surviving'. Does George bush control the media - to a certain degree yeah and don't forget that the media has had its fair few attacks on Mr Bush. In any case, I don't think George Bush has anything against black people. From the outside, it looks as if race still plays a significant part in American lifestyle and that people aren't racist but yet cannot look past racial outlines. I feel GW made a comment that could've been interpreted the wrong way by any black person and I hope he's apologised. I forgive him anyway.

I know this is off-topic, but I just wanted to point out that Metallica aren't death metal.

Would slipknot be death metal...or Korn...but I really like Korn....so I suppose if they are death metal..there are some exceptions. What's the genre of Linkin Park? Because they are like my fav band of all time (although I love the Jackson 5!)

Sorry..i'm going off topic...I LOVE RAP.

DMX is renown for having deep prayer during his concerts and is an avid and devout believer in Christ. Does anyone like DMX? He's a favourite of mine and most of his tunes rap about the hardness of life, the ghetto, the streets and usually from a very aggressive point of view; he grew up in an orphanage having been a very troubled child but some of his tunes I hate because they are just the same ol' rap notion of, 'I have all the hoes, I got soo much money that I'm just the best.' - This arrogant, egositical theme that seems to make rap more and more popular. He does have this song though...'Slippin'....which must be one of the greatest rap songs of all time.

How do people feel about DMX?

All three of those would probably be best classified as nu metal.

I'm actually not a rap fan. In fact I have no idea why I was reading this thread in the first place - I guess I was looking for ways to avoid working.

Also...you're a methodist...wat is unique to the beliefs of your denomination.

I'm not sure if there's anything explicitly unique about the Methodist church.. Here's a post in the Methodist forum which provides links to the beliefs.

My experience of the Methodist church is that it's fairly accommodating to most people. There's room for both conservative and liberal members, and services can range from traditional to contemporary, often within the same church (my church has three services on a Sunday each with a different style of worship).

But this getting completely off-topic. If you've got any questions you're welcome to PM me and I'll do my best to answer them.
