  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Never expected Ice Cube to go from Amerikkka'z Most Wanted to Are We There Yet?. Just like Fredo Starr when from Slam to Moesha. What's next, dead prez starring in a inspirational movie with Dakota Fanning?

And now watch the thread get jacked by ppl who hate rap.

I don't mind the odd song here and there from some few and far between rap artists that have a wide enough vocabulary that they don't have to cuss every second word or are intelligent enough to write a song that isn't about either sex, drugs, or shooting people, but, hey, such a rap artist is rare.

I guess I like some R&B (not very much though), and I don't mind rap/sung collaborations too much. Other than that, pass, I like me some Pop or Rock. ;)

This kind of attitude drives me crazy. Not the fact that you hold it, this isn't any sort of attack on you, but the fact that the rap and hip-hop that gets exposure is exactly the type that you describe. However, artists who write songs about things other than sex, drugs, and shooting people are all over the place, they just don't get radio play or MTV exposure (though Common is in a Gap commercial now )

I might suggest that it's a government conspiracy intended to keep black people subjugated by encouraging them to pursue an inherently self-destructive lifestyle in pursuit of success, but that would probably seem conspiratorial.

Exactly. I could name more than 20 artists off the top of my head. They're not rare.

Well, Hip-Hop is dead officially. Btw, Nas is coming with a new album...judging by the producers involved, hip-hop is really dead (will.i.am?). No one gets the best out of Nas like Premier. But he's too busy producing Christina Aguilera. You'd hear Premier + Nas and you knew that was going to be classic. But seriously, no one's more hip-hop right now than DJ Shadow. Even Prince Paul said it, so it must be true!

Interestingly enough, BEP released a remix EP a few months back (Renegotiations) which is pretty worthwhile (read: no Fergie). I had completely written them off after Elephunk and Monkey Business, but the first track is a collaborative effort featuring Q-Tip, Talib Kweli, Cee-Lo, and John Legend, and the DJs on the remixes include Premier, Jazzy Jeff, Erick Sermon, and Large Professor. It's only 7 tracks, but it's definitely decent.

I gotta check that out.

Btw, just heard "Hip-Hop Is Dead". It sounds like a single alright, but no like what you hear in the radio. Great track.

I actually don't mind rap also that has an interesting beat. You have to admit, most of the radio stuff always has the same old Storch or Dupri-produced flimsy beats that all sound the same. It would be good if those producers could once in a while take a risk and incorporate some different styles or make a slightly different-sounding beat.

Don't listen to what's on the radio! 99% of it is gonna be recycled beats and hooks. Instead of waiting for them to do what they'll never do, check out some stuff by Premier or Princel Paul or Madvillain, if you really want to hear some good hip-hop.

Btw, I've been listening to some Madvillainy. "Don't talk about my moms, yo!" A modern classic.
