  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

yeah i'm a feminist but i don't hate men. they frighten me at times, but the only thing that thread did is let me know who to watch out for.

Except fearing all men without quantifier is prejudiced. As is implying that people who disagree with you on feminism is a threat or needs "watching out for".

if someone feels feminism is a joke then they feel that i don't deserve equality. if someone doesn't feel i am an equal then yes i will consider them a potential threat. they see me as not deserving of rights. that is a major red flag in any situation.

as for fearing all men, that is something that is built through experience. every single guy i've ever known offline, i am not exaggerating, has shown themselves to think of women as lesser beings, fit only for serving their needs and wants. the vast majority of them felt that any girl they liked owed that to them.

how many guys have to ask me for nudes for me to be able to say that i don't want to pm with guys? 20? 50? 100? would it ever be okay to you?

when it comes to dealing with men, women can't win. we are expected to always be nice and smile and trust all the nice guys out there, yet if we do trust them and get raped or beaten, it's our fault for trusting them. we were asking for it because of how we dress, or we got drunk. oh yeah that also, if a girl gets drunk and gets raped it's her fault for drinking, but if a guy gets drunk and rapes the girl he didn't know what he was doing, boys will be boys. oh no their lives are ruined now because of that girl, she just had to say something.

no i don't hate men, but yes they worry me, and i have more than enough experience and reasons to have that view. i don't believe all men are like that, but if you are more concerned about me making sure to point that out than the fact that i have real concerns then you are not someone i'd want to be around. does that mean i'll be mean to you? no.

Nope. They may simply feel it is an inadequate response to the problem of equality, as many feminist-critical people do.

if someone doesn't feel i am an equal then yes i will consider them a potential threat. they see me as not deserving of rights. that is a major red flag in any situation.
Except simply disagreeing with you on the matter of feminism is none of those things.

as for fearing all men, that is something that is built through experience. every single guy i've ever known offline, i am not exaggerating, has shown themselves to think of women as lesser beings, fit only for serving their needs and wants. the vast majority of them felt that any girl they liked owed that to them.
And yet if you did the same with black people based on one's necessarily limited personal experience, people would be piling on to call you a racist. So let's have some consistency here, either such bigotry is acceptable, or it is not.

how many guys have to ask me for nudes for me to be able to say that i don't want to pm with guys? 20? 50? 100? would it ever be okay to you?
Probably not seeing as not all guys do that so the rule is not justified.

when it comes to dealing with men, women can't win. we are expected to always be nice and smile and trust all the nice guys out there, yet if we do trust them and get raped or beaten, it's our fault for trusting them.
That does not mean you can reasonably justify being so prejudiced against men that you treat all of them as a potential threat. This is true for everybody when it comes to dealing with their own reactions to things, you are scarcely being unfairly singled out here.

we were asking for it because of how we dress, or we got drunk. oh yeah that also, if a girl gets drunk and gets raped it's her fault for drinking, but if a guy gets drunk and rapes the girl he didn't know what he was doing, boys will be boys. oh no their lives are ruined now because of that girl, she just had to say something.
Ditto the above. I can recite a whole list of crappy things that abusive women do to men, but that doesn't justify me generalising all women.

no i don't hate men, but yes they worry me
Which by the standards of what most feminists consider misogyny when directed at women, this definitely comprises hatred of men.

and i have more than enough experience and reasons to have that view. i don't believe all men are like that
Except you said "men worry you". Not "some men worry you".

but if you are more concerned about me making sure to point that out than the fact that i have real concerns then you are not someone i'd want to be around.
The concern is fine, but you should not engage in bigotry in order to protect yourself. It's literally the consistent insertion of one word - "some"- that's all that is being asked. But apparently that's too much to ask and it means we should be treated like a threat because of it, which is absolutely laughable.

Apart from anything else, it causes your credibility when talking about gender equality to suffer as it is highly hypocritical behaviour.

does that mean i'll be mean to you? no.
Except you already are by being prejudiced towards men in the way that you have.

I just find it somewhat interesting that you are very keen to protect your own feelings but are dismissive when other people point out what offends them.

so all i got out of Gad's post is that if i am afraid, even if it's a learned fear due to past experiences, then i'm being a bigot and i should always trust every guy till they hurt me because not all guys are like that.

No, that you should take it on a case by case basis rather than just treat all men as a potential threat. This will require more thought than simply appealing to prejudice, but that's what all bigots have to do to reform. Your case is no different.

nope sorry still doesn't make sense to me. i will not jeopardize my safety. i will be as cautious as i can when dealing with a group that i know is capable of harming me. you wouldn't hug a bear would you? yet there are some friendly bears. it would be wrong to think all bears are violent. right?

Sooooo.....men as a whole can be compared to bloody animals.....and you don't see any problem with this? Maybe you could stop dehumanising an entire gender in such a sexist fashion.

are you purposefully dense? there is nothing prejudice about being careful. yes to me men are a potential threat till proven otherwise. if someone shows they have respect for women and for me in particular then, and only then, i will trust them. that is being safe, not bigoted.

doesn't feel good does it? how often are women on the street and especially in the media reduced to objects for mens pleasure? yet one girl on the internet makes a comparison and suddenly misandry is a major issue. you are just deflecting the fact that i made a valid point with the bear analogy.

seriously, replace "bear" with "guy" and you have exactly what we are talking about. that was the whole point you avoided because it doesn't conform to your view of feminists. you probably can't stand that refuse to hate on men calling them pigs or whatever. i don't fit your man hating feminazi image that you think all feminists are like. it's almost like you might be bigoted towards feminists. not all feminists hate men. that doesn't mean they have to trust all men.

There is if it involves judging an entire group on a non-essential characteristic.

Except it isn't as you are generalising and assuming all people of a particular group are a potential problem based on knowing nothing other about them than their gender is bigotry.

This is no different to locking your car door when a black person walks past. But hey, you were mugged by someone who happened to be black once so TOTES JUSTIFIED

doesn't feel good does it? how often are women on the street and especially in the media reduced to objects for mens pleasure? yet one girl on the internet makes a comparison and suddenly misandry is a major issue.
So if it's a problem then why are you doing it? Hypocrisy again.

You know nothing of my history - I've always stuck up for women's issues and still do - but I learned in the process that many feminists who claim to seek equality are hypocrites, who are quite happy to be as sexist against men while decrying the same against them. I've just found another one, apparently.

you are just deflecting the fact that i made a valid point with the bear analogy.

seriously, replace "bear" with "guy" and you have exactly what we are talking about.
Right. You directly compared men to dangerous animals. How in the world can you sit there and claim to be for gender equality?

that was the whole point you avoided because it doesn't conform to your view of feminists. you probably can't stand that refuse to hate on men calling them pigs or whatever. i don't fit your man hating feminazi image that you think all feminists are like. it's almost like you might be bigoted towards feminists. not all feminists hate men. that doesn't mean they have to trust all men.
So you don't call all men pigs, but you call them all wild dangerous animals instead, and yet you insist you're not a feminazi?

Do you want to maybe rethink that one?

You are being hateful towards men because of your generalisation, bigotry and dehumanisation of an entire gender - so you actually do fit that image pretty nicely. The fact that you are readily denying it is neither here nor there.

staying safe is never a bad thing for anyone to do.
It is when you unnecessarily resort to bigotry and then try and justify it.

This is why this BUT MUH FEELS ARE OFFENDED PLS STAHP is such a crock - the people who complain loudest about it never apply it consistently. It's all self-centredness.

The original feminist thread asked would I date feminists - I would strongly recommend to all men to have enough self-respect and self-preservation not to date a bigot, nor someone who throws up a threat narrative over an internet disagreement, which covers a couple of the female feminists here.

No it is not a fair proposition, to be treated as a suspected rapist, by default.

But people are naturally fearful and irrational at times. It would be nice if women, especially feminists, could do a little introspection and evaluate exactly how much of that fear is unrealistic and artificially instigated by fictional stories about the evils of all men.

Besides, I tend to naturally assume most women would gladly cut my heart out with a spoon, take my money, and leave me for dead, metaphorically speaking.

Not least because we challenge all other mindsets of this type. If someone has a bad relationship we encourage them not to write off an entire gender as useless.

In the case of 9/11 there was a big drive to make sure that Muslims were not treated wholesale with suspicion.

And yet when it comes to men - totally acceptable to profile. Makes perfect sense. We challenge all these other mindset with no accusation of prejudice. Challenge the Schrodinger's Rapist mindset, well - You Just Hate Women.

Besides, I tend to naturally assume most women would gladly cut my heart out with a spoon, take my money, and leave me for dead, metaphorically speaking.

No no no that's totally different. Saying something like that would be prejudiced. Everyone knows men are rapey mcrapersons who are out to rape, and you can tell they are because they disagree with teh sacred feminism.

wow, honestly if you really knew me and my feminism you would feel really bad. you are trying to apply things to me that are factually wrong. you are trying to make a big deal out of an analogy, and even when i point out why i used it you don't seem to get it.

believe what you want. but i know my views and feelings better than anyone and i haven't lied. i'm not the "feminazi" you are looking for.

for the record i love bears and wouldn't call them violent animals at all. that was my point, they have the POTENTIAL for violence so you don't just run up and hug them, imo bears are awesome. men have the potential for either violence or love as well, just like every other living being, even women.

the difference is i don't have the same experience with women as i do with men. i will never say women aren't capable of violence. a lady about an hour or so away from me recently murdered her three children. anyone is capable of violence. the thing is who you trust will be affected but who hurt you in the past. a guy can say he's afraid of women if that's where his experience with women brought him to that conclusion. i would never tell him he's a bigot or wrong or call it misogyny. his life up to that point created that fear, it's okay for him to be cautious.

is that a clearer example of my view?

I strongly suspect I wouldn't, given what you've demonstrated of it so far.

you are trying to apply things to me that are factually wrong. you are trying to make a big deal out of an analogy, and even when i point out why i used it you don't seem to get it.
I get exactly what you're trying to say. You don't seem to get why using a wild animal analogy to describe men is so offensive. It actually plays right into the boys will be boys mindset apart from anything else - we're usually described as dangerous beasts. Feminists at least usually pretend to say they're trying to break that down, and yet here you are using the exact same imagery.

believe what you want. but i know my views and feelings better than anyone and i haven't lied. i'm not the "feminazi" you are looking for.
I'm sure you think you haven't lied. That doesn't mean that you're not wrong, nor does that mean that your views aren't incredibly hurtful, unhelpful and discriminatory.

for the record i love bears and wouldn't call them violent animals at all. that was my point, they have the POTENTIAL for violence so you don't just run up and hug them, imo bears are awesome. men have the potential for either violence or love as well, just like every other living being, even women.
But it's only men you're scared of. You didn't extend the analogy to women. I have no issue with someone being generally wary if necessary. It's what I try and do. If I have an off day and generalisations flare up, I note them and try and improve on them. I don't go and rationalise them. I wish other people would make this level of effort.

the difference is i don't have the same experience with women as i do with men. i will never say women aren't capable of violence. a lady about an hour or so away from me recently murdered her three children. anyone is capable of violence. the thing is who you trust will be affected but who hurt you in the past. a guy can say he's afraid of women if that's where his experience with women brought him to that conclusion. i would never tell him he's a bigot or wrong or call it misogyny. his life up to that point created that fear, it's okay for him to be cautious.

is that a clearer example of my view?
It doesn't involve comparing men to animals, so that is some improvement. It is still bigotry, it is still unjustifiable, and I consider it to be wrong no matter who does it, no matter to what group. I have given some examples of this above - we do not tolerate racial profiling on the whole as a society, so do not expect me as a man to tolerate gender profiling.

I will happily work with feminists who are not bigoted or who are at least trying to combat their initial bigoted reactions. But there is too much bigotry in society already, and if it becomes acceptable in certain situations the case against it is undermined. If people cannot deal with their problems without engaging in such behaviour then in terms of solving issues they should not be included in the solving of the problem.

If the genders were flipped and you made such a statement about women, you wouldn't be getting off half so lightly from feminists. Be consistent.
