  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The Phoenix is also very significant in ancient Christian tradition. It symbolizes death and rebirth.
I know it is to some but that's pushing it a bit. I don't like symbols like that to represent Christ, especially when they also have close ties with satanic religions/organizations. It's like all these new agers trying to claim the ancient Egyptian gods were actually the Trinity. Remember Satan wants to disguise himself as the messiah and true God. He likes to use many of the same themes but look closer and you'll realize he is the opposite of Christ - the anti-Christ. But anyway, it's nice artwork at least.

OK, go ahead and make fun of me for pointing that out...

I'm not making fun of anyone, at least for the moment.

Not only is it part of Christian tradition, but I had my "born again" experience in Phoenix, Arizona so the symbol is significant to me as well. This isn't ProtestantForums.com, and you should think twice before pulling the "satanism" card on other Christians. Remember, they did the same to Jesus.

I wasn't calling anyone a Satanist. I was merely pointing out that the symbol is used a lot in Satanism, the occult, and secular religions. And to get it tattooed to your back is either ignorant or foolish (even though it looks cool).

It could also be a symbol of pride in one's faith, like the Coptics who tattoo crosses to their hands and wrists even though they'll be punished more severely by the Muslims who catch them wearing one. In case you hadn't noticed, we're not Nazarites or Levites.

Let me put it this way... Would you tattoo the symbol of a swastika on you (or encourage someone else to do it)? Probably not. Why? It technically means "to be good." But the reality is that the symbol has been used by secular religions and downright evil organizations (like the Nazis).

Most people understand the meaning of the symbol of the cross (even though that has become somewhat perverted as well). But it is not likely that a person would see someone with a tattoo of a phoenix and think, "I bet that's a Christian!" If anything, they would likely say, "I bet that person needs Christ!"

But sure, tattoos are often personal things. People want them for their own enjoyment and create their own meanings for it. But obviously this person is showing it off to the world by posting it on the internet so it was meant to be seen. However, when I became a Christian, I lost any desire for tattoos or piercings and believe that Christ is shown by me through my life and actions rather than through something I'm wearing.

But apparently many Christians still want them. In fact, many of the people in my church groups are obsessed with them and constantly have to get more and more. One guy recently got a tattoo of a cross on his face. Another guy is struggling financially but decided to spend all his money on a tattoo instead of other things he needed. Maybe I'm crazy and too "judgmental" but in many cases, it seems to be a sign that something is mentally not right with them.

So yeah, I'm not necessarily against tattoos or anything but I'll stand by my statement that getting a tattoo of a phoenix, especially if this person is a Christian, is a bit ignorant. But that is not to say that I am condemning that person on that basis. I love all people, and especially the brethren, but I don't always love what they do. :p
