  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This has been on my mind lately, I want to take a case of Bibles down to a local park and have a Bible study... with total strangers. I will sit at a table with several Bibles laid out and just wait for God to provide people for the study. I know this sounds kinda weird but I think God has put it on my mind. For this reason I am going to buy a case of NLT bibles, come up with several studies and go to the park and wait for those God has prepared to be a part of it. Not real sure how I am going to go about doing it, but I am sure God will provide.

Just wondering what yall think of this.

Hey Torcot,

I think it's a great idea. Something else you may want to consider is not to take a whole case, but rather 6 or so. If you get more people than that, they can always share. However, here's something else you may want to take with you. In my evangelism efforts I carry with me a tract that I buy through tractleague.com/ for $7/100 with the Roman Road. It's a simple tract and gives me a written explanation of the way of salvation as shown by Paul in the book of Romans. I can either go through it with a seeker one on one, or for those who just come up to you and ask what's going on and then walk away, you will still be able to plant a seed by giving them their own copy of the tract to take with them, with your encouragement to read it.

If you're interested you can get the two page foldover tract (tract #222) which gives the Scriptural reference and then a short explanation of what each means or you can get the single page tract ( tract #161) which has only the Scriptural reference and then you would look them up with the person and question them as to what the various passages say to them.

God bless you.
In Christ, Ted.

I think carrying some tracts is a great idea. As far as the bible study... it doesn't sound that much different than street preaching/open air witnessing and people do that all the time. So why not a Bible study. I would take someone with me. That way we'd already be having a bible study and people can join in. If no one joins in you still will have enjoyed a bible study in a nice park with a friend.

Kinda like posting on a Christian message board? ;)

Yes. The only difference is, you'd probably get a lot more know it all pagans who will trip up any good you can do...well, I guess it's more like posting on a Christian Forum then I first thought.

;)

The harvest is more ready than you think Sr.

In person even the most devoted atheists are willing to hear and feel the testimony of someone with a relationship with Christ.

You must be preaching one of them non-offensive modern Gospels then.

you would be amazed at how many people are just searching for someone to love them. If you let them see your love, then they are willing to accept a little criticism cause they know you care. I have been in continuous talks with an agnostic for nearly a year. He will allow me to criticize his beliefs and actually listens simply because I have shown that I care about him.

I think that it is a wonderful idea!

Our Lord told us to preach the Gospel, to make disciples...nowhere do I see a caveat: "Unless you upset them, unless you suffer persecution, unless someone wants to argue with you". ;)

Again we are told that "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God"...so I say Go for it!

You may upset folks, others may want to argue with you...so what? Paul said it best when he said that if he wanted to please men, then he would no longer be a servant of God.

If one seed is planted, if the course of even one soul is changed from eternal damnation to eternal life, if one person comes to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord....then that is a success...but moreover, you be obedient and let God take care of the small stuff. :)

Interesting point; Christ is the rock of offense. I will pray about this because you are right, being confronted with the gospel should force the flesh to shriek and the soul to choose.

That said: I've found that telling people about Christ in my life offers no offense but often brings about a harvest.

...So I wonder...

I'm just sayin'...I've been offered a punch in the face for talking about God. I wasn't being sarcastic or rude. I've been called names, told I believed in "old wives tales," that I was superstitious, etc.

I've never talked to someone seeking God. A few folks who God was drawing to Himself but no God seekers.
