I'd agree with John Mamabear. For free your best bet is AVG or Antivir.

I've used antivir, but I've been seeing more of AVG and it seems like a good product.

You should also have adware/spware scanners. There are a couple good ones that are available for free. Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad Aware.

One thing to remember, uninstall your old antivirus program. Two antivirus programs do not get along well together on the same system. Oddly enough having both Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad Aware on your computer is completely harmless and they actually seem to compliment each other nicely (ie. once picks up what the other doesn't).

I use both Adaware and Spybot S&D. My Norton is good for another week, I think. I'll check those others out, when it expires, thanks!

The best thing you can do is keep your Windows updated...it's free. Go to www.microsoft.com and sign up for automatic updates, but it will check your computer from the site right then and let you know what you need to do.

Then go to www.tucows.com and look for anti-virus share ware as Rhys suggested.
Norton is really a good resource management tool, but McAfee is far superior when it comes to viruses. Norton tends to miss a lot and it can be persnickety. PC-cillin is 'sposed to be good as well, but we've been virus free for over a year with McAfee and I'm tickled pink. I believe it's $45.00/2 years with a rebate. Check www.mcafee.com

/me starts the coffee brewing.

Morning friends

John...why the mumble? Didn't sleep well?

/me sees that the coffee is way too weak so he adds a few more scoops to it.

Good morning, everybody. How are you all doing? I'm sorry to hear that you're sick, John. I'll pray for you.
