Is the F word so offensive because it refers to off limits stuff itself or it refers to abnormal off limits thigns like pornography and related behaviors or specific gross sexual acts.
Profanity upsets the religious because it it is transgressive in areas of sex and blasphemy. This is why the non religious don't care as much. It has nothing to do with intelligence and everything to do with cultural rules of purity.

The loathsomeness of the f-word doesn't come from its partial meaning of sex. The f-word carries so much more meaning and an INTENSELY bigger connotation than that.

  • It's used for shock value. And so many times for that reason alone.
  • It's used to be nasty, purposefully impolite, and abusive.
  • It's implies disgust, condemnation of something or someone, or contempt to the highest degree possible. She's not just ugly. She's f'ing ugly. Meaning you won't find anyone uglier and she is to be mocked and shunned because of it.
  • It's vulgar. If it were NOT vulgar - people wouldn't give the word such a high degree of merit. They would ignore the word.
  • And as for it's use meaning sex - it strips sexual activity of anything meaningful. It just deems it as a act without bonding and reduces it to mere rutting.
The word just reduces everything it intensifies to it's lowest level.

I know the occassional use of it may intensify a good thing. Such as - that was f'ing awesome. But there is too much of the word that is vulgar, cheapens the object being intensified, and is just used to shock people and to be nasty, negative, and hurtful to the highest degree possible.

Speech is a gift from God. We are created in his image. We have an alphabet and language in ways that animal communication don't. God said in his word, "Let your speech be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you will know how to answer each person." Jesus Christ, himself, said, "It's not what goes into a man's mouth that defiles him, but what come out of his mouth."

I know there are some here that I won't change your mind. I'm just answering the question asked.

I don't think you have a bit of evidence for this claim. You are simply stating an opinion. Clearly not everyone shares this opinion.
Speech is a gift from God.
One of my favorite quotes from Shakespeare's The Tempest:
"You taught me language, and my profit on ’t
Is I know how to curse. The red plague rid you
For learning me your language!" (I.ii.)

Yes, I know. Some use the word a blessing and mother's milk to the hearer. The word is "worshiped" by many who use it. That's why they use it. It's an important word to them.

I know when I use to use the word, I thought it made what I said more important and more desired to be listened to and loved.

I know better now. To each is own. My own is what God wants me to do. I can help no one else.

Are you saying the f word is just a grotesque sounding word itself or that grotesqueness by definition has a connection to sex?

I did not say either one of those things. Look at my bullet points.

Since the topic is profanity, its a question I had.

How Far Is Too Far Before Marriage?
I think, to be specific, that would mean touching breasts or touching genitals. I can’t imagine any normal person saying, “Oh, touching breasts and touching genitals is just not sexual for us. It is not going anywhere.” That is just crazy.

Does the f word refer to normal behaviors itself (and the grotesqueness is a reference to mentioning things that arent polite to discuss), to specific versions of them. I dont think the issue is its a grotesque sounding word itself or not. Or does it refer to butts or anything off limits or whatever abnormal sexual behaviors, like pornography related ones?An Overview Of The Issue - Fight the New Drug

Everyone knows it refers to the sex act. And it does so for the purposes of shocking people. It's similar to using the "C" word. It's just an attempt to be as crude as possible in a single word. Of course when people use it all the time, it's no longer shocking, but just makes them sound like idiots.

Is its connection to mating why its as crude as possible?

Plants and fungi mating doesnt evoke the f word.

So it doesnt refer to specific types of sexuality or anything abnormal like pornography or 50 shades of grey, just sex itself?

Actually it has many different meanings. For example, someone saying 'f you' usually doesn't mean that they want to have sex with you, it means that they hate you.

I dont want to mention the gross details i mentioned in the previous post but does the f word refer to sex in and of itself or specific details

It can have both sexual and non-sexual meanings. But in all cases, it's rude.

I meant is the sexual meaning itself why its rude. So it doesnt refer to specific types of sexuality or anything abnormal like pornography or 50 shades of grey, just sex itself?
