Seems like that statement can’t be backed up with any evidence that could even remotely point to an opinion being “objectively bad”...It is bad by default. It's also objectively bad.

It is not bad by default. Where is your evidence for this. That sounds like a personal opinion. If profanity is indicative of inferior intelligence in some way, how do you explain the use of profanity by geniuses? It is bad by default. It's also objectively bad. But I never saw your argument, so if you want to sum it up for me that'd be great.
Doesn't matter how "intelligent" someone is, spouting profanity is still the weak part of their brain coming to the forefront. It is not bad by default. Where is your evidence for this. Prove that statement. What evidence do you have for this. Do you have evidence from neuroscience?Doesn't matter how "intelligent" someone is, spouting profanity is still the weak part of their brain coming to the forefront.
Well that is not true or convincing. If it were true there would be evidence. It's something called common sense, but I understand that's it is a rare commodity these days.
Wait...that is your opinion, it is not evidence. I have beed edified by Shakespeare and others who employ profanity. There are beautiful songs that use profanity--for example Jason Isbell's song Elephant. That song is emotionally powerful and the use of profanity elevates that emotion. The evidence is that profanity makes one sound like a fool and adds nothing to a conversation.
Hadn't heard of that guy before. Thanks.Wait...that is your opinion, it is not evidence. I have beed edified by Shakespeare and others who employ profanity. Common sense says there’s a difference between opinion and fact. You have an opinion. It's something called common sense, but I understand that's it is a rare commodity these days.
Blasphemy! (I do recommended Dylan's latest album: Rough and Rowdy Ways -- https://genius.com/albums/Bob-dylan/Rough-and-rowdy-ways)He is brilliant. Best songwriter working today...and Dylan is still alive. Thats my opinion anyway.
I don't think the profane words themselves are truly harmful, if not just being tasteless. I think the intention of the heart is a bigger issue. So you think words can't ever be harmful?
I try never to present my opinions as anything other than opinions...So does everyone, shrug.
These verses you quoted are an inspiration in a culture where profanity is so casually used and defended.[1] Ephesians 4:29 = "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear."
[2] Ephesians 5:4 = "Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving."
[3] Colossians 3:8 = "But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth."
Is the F word so offensive because it refers to off limits stuff itself or it refers to abnormal off limits thigns like pornography and related behaviors or specific gross sexual acts.I used to "cuss" like a sailor. In my 30's and 40's. Only around a few people. Not around children, my family. Pretty much just a very small handful of colleagues. About 2 -3.
Why? I thought it was funny. I thought it relieved tension. That small handful of colleagues always laughed. I thought, "It's just those few ladies.....and they laugh. What's the harm." And here I was a devout Christian.
Then one day, we got a couple of new colleagues and our wing was blamed for something we did not do. We were thoroughly and verbally trounced without so much an opportunity to defend ourselves.
On the way back to our wing - I let out a string of profanity. The worst of the worst. I was so mad. I heard my colleagues laughing again only this time I was thinking "This is NOT funny!"
I turned around to tell them that and the look on the two new colleagues faces' stopped me in my tracks. Their look was shock and disbelief.
And for the first time, I got a GOOD look at my long term colleagues laughing. It was not a "oh, that's funny laugh". It was a nervous laugh.
I spent a long time - a few months - looking at what the Bible says about speech. I was appalled at myself and ask God to forgive me. He did.
I told those ladies that I was sorry and that they would never hear that from me again. And they haven't.

The intention of the heart is what the religious care about--others focus on actions. I'll take actions.I don't think the profane words themselves are truly harmful, if not just being tasteless. I think the intention of the heart is a bigger issue.

This is an awkard question because it wouldnt be right to get into details but Ive wondered why the f word is considered such a big deal.Constantly cursing is an action. It's also a choice, even if it's a habit, it can be broken.
