radical dating message

I wanna share just a small message from one of the members of Barlowgirl. If u haven't heard of this band, they are a great encouragement concerning dating. I wanna share this clip i filmed from one of their concerts I was in last year. One of their members gives this classic speech in every of their show and somewhere in their talk she always mentions the dating subject:

I beg your pardon, but the chance of wasting 3 minutes of my life on something pretty dumb is just too high. No offense, I've just been told lots of dumb things are great, and I've wasted plenty of time on them. Why don't you tell me what she says, and maybe I'll watch it.

I don't think it's that radical.... If God has called her not to date anyone then she should be obedient to that; but that doesn't mean that every person or Christian that is dating/has a b/f or g/f is unpure or not doing what God wants them to do. Just the fact of "not dating" doesn't make one a better or more effective Christian. And the verse she is using is a good verse, but I don't think it has anything to do with dating or not dating.....

Just because the messsage is radical doesn't make it a good message. This whole 'no dating' movement has been around for at least the last half decade, thanks to books like "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" and the whole 'dating God' movement that seeks to turn ALL male/female "more than friends" interaction before marriage into a sin.

I realize that this is a post from a month ago, but I ran a search to see if this was a normal thing to hear in churches.

I am married so this no longer applies, but my wife's pastor preaches the same thing. That dating is not Biblical. It's not in the Bible therefore it shouldn't be done. He uses Isaac telling Jacob to go out and find a wife as his scriptural reference. He says that's God saying not to date and to only go out and find a husband or wife.

This teaching didn't sit well with me and I'm glad to hear that other Christians feel the same way that I do.

I think her message of seeking our identity through Christ and not from other people is great... and remaining pure and living a life of purity is awesome... but yeah, I agree with everyone else in that whether you are dating or not dating these things are true. Even if you are in a dating relationship you should seek your identity from God and remain pure. You don't have to not date to do those things.

I would say to find your worth in God and in what He thinks of you, and not what others do. I think it is very easy in life (and especially within a relationship) to judge your worth based on what others or your partner thinks of you, when really, that is now how it should be.

She didn't really say much from what I saw. Ya, God's 1st .. but I don't see how one gets from their to not dating as if dating somehow meant one didn't have God 1st in their life. That type peraching is just to manipulate people's guilt from what I can see.
