• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

So are there any studies that quantified this?
Apart from the ones on Chernobyl, the fallout from nuclear testing in the Pacific by USA back in the 50's

There were recent rumors in Chernobyl when Russian troops rode through the most radioactive zone in Chernobyl and setup camp. At least one soldier died and some were admitted due to radioactive poisoning.

Which is incredible because wild animals thrive in the most radioactive zone including bears, dogs while seemingly unaffected by radiation.

So what about wrinkles, gray hair, and hair loss? Did your new lifestyle fixed those three things?
Reduced wrinkling and more youthful looking skin all over my body and this is despite increased exposure to UV radiation from the Sun (from outdoor exercise).

I never had gray hair nor hair loss and my hair is still exactly the same as they did in my teens. My age-resistant hair is definitely genetic. The genetic problems in our family is diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. Most of our 40 year old and older in our family have cardiovascular disease already. I'm one of the few who still have none and I'm a "medication-free" person. I don't take any medicines nor supplements.

I've never been sick either since taking up this lifestyle although my exercise routine is fairly extreme. Every Saturday, I have a 4 to 6 hour long continuous workout without eating nor drinking within the fasting window. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) for 50 minutes each day the next 4 days followed by 2 days of light exercise per week.

All my workouts are done within the fasting window of daily intermittent fasting and without eating and strictly for my own practice only, I don't drink water as well during the fasting window and during exercise. I don't recommend doing this due to the danger.

I guess when I said "eating whatever I want", I misspoke. I actually meant both whatever and whenever. So I guess what I am thinking is that if I can fast for 30 days straight and then after that be able to eat both whatever I want and whenever I want for the next few years, then those 30 days would be worth it.

This plan of yours might give you worse results. Immediate effect of calorie restriction would actually cause the opposite and reduce telomere length at more rapid pace. And then going back to old unhealthy lifestyle would sustain the increased pace of telomere length loss.

The best option is to sustain it like intermittent fasting. The increased loss of telomere length is only at the beginning and then slows down at a later time and eventually slower than those on unhealthy diet.

This study did a two-year study on the subject and seemingly convinced a longer-term study would produce result favoring a sustained, calorie-restricted diet.

The most effective way to achieve calorie restriction is adding exercise to your daily routine. Calorie restriction doesn't just mean reducing the amount of food you eat but eating the same or less calories than you burn the whole day. Exercise will increase the calories you burn each day. If you do lots of exercise, you may even end up eating more and still achieve calorie restriction.

As far as replacing breakfast with branch, I been doing it anyway due to getting up very late and then going for a run. However, I had snacks between my branch and my dinner. So that part is the harder one.
That is probably OK and permissible as long as you finish eating dinner not later than 8pm in the evening and no snacking after dinner.

Actually, let's say you finish dinner at 8 pm, the next morning you wake up 9 am, run up to 10 am (no eating nor drinking before and during exercise, eat brunch at 10 am and take some snacks between brunch and dinner.

It's going to be a good enough plan actually. In fact, you don't even need to do multi-day fast if you can stick to it.

What I was asking for is the amount of mSv. Now, I already saw that number, but it was problematic because it seemed less than what one gets from CT scan. You told me its because it gets magnified due to radioactive dust being stuck in the lungs. If so, then I would like a new number, that would take that into account.

Thats nice to know. So wrinkles aren't irreversible, after all.

I never had gray hair nor hair loss and my hair is still exactly the same as they did in my teens.

Well, in my case, I have both grey hair and hair loss. Both are partial rather than complete. So if you know of ways to reverse one or both of them, it would be great.

Actually I was thinking of it three years ago, in the context of my glucose concerns (my official tests come back as normal yet I get pre-diabetic readings on my home glucometers). I heard of Newcastle Diet that would send diabetes into remission after 600+200=800 calories a day for two months. So I thought maybe I should instead do 0 calories a day for 1 month.

Although the explanation that I read that first got my attention doesn't make sense. Because what I read was there was an experiment where they would put beta cells into glucose bath and they stop producing insulin, but then they would remove them from glucose bath and put instead into glucose concentration 15 mg/dl and they would again start producing insuline. But I later learned that fasting won't get my glucose down to 15 mg/dl: when I tried for 2 weeks, it was around 55 mg/dl. Besides I also read that I don't want 15 mg/dl anyway since it would trigger seizures which might cause brain damage.

A lot more common explanation of Newcastle Diet is that the body would be forced to disjest the fact around the pancreas (since it has no other sources of food) and this will enable pancreas to work better.

Or are you saying that, while Newcastle Diet might improve my glucose metabolism, it would go at the expense of telamere length. So in other words it would turn younger person with glucose issues into older person without them. So if my top priority is to be younger it won't be something that I want.

In fact, you don't even need to do multi-day fast if you can stick to it.

Actually I already started my fast. I ate dinner yesterday, but I didn't anything today. I was planning on going for 5 days, or are you suggesting differently?

I don't know of anything that can reverse graying hair and hair loss.

I know of one very healthy athlete who started balding in his teens so the problem may not be ultimately associated with overall aging but purely genetic / racial attribute.

Intermittent fasting is better because there is no calorie restriction involved. You can still eat as much calories as before

I had pre-diabetes as well and intermittent fasting with exercise fully cured me of the problem.

Actually I already started my fast. I ate dinner yesterday, but I didn't anything today. I was planning on going for 5 days, or are you suggesting differently?
I've been recommending you Intermittent fasting in the last several replies I made to you already.

It's the eating habit where you eat only brunch and dinner and ideally no snacking in between brunch and dinner.

It's really not that hard when your body adapts to it. You're not restricting calories, you're still allowed to eat whatever you want. You just can't snack in between meals. You can even eat more in the brunch just to get you all the way to dinner without snacking and finally, you can still eat snacks as long as you eat them immediately after each meal and I don't mean continuously eating snacks after brunch. Dinner calories should be less than brunch calories to avoid high blood sugar in the morning.

You really have to make some sacrifices now if you wish to live sick-free, healthy, and strong in the next couple decades because getting old won't be fun if you're sick, weak, and in pain.

There's nothing normal about the "Standard American Diet". It's dysfunctional and it's an addiction. Like any addiction, it needs to be cured.
