• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey there again yall, I have been spiking about this one for a while.

Whenever I see a quote on TV or if someone says something I agree with, I try to pass it off as my own opinion.

Ex. When I was being taught a few lessons before my first baptism, I said the line "I know that we are all born with original sin"

I got that line from a south park episode. To be honest, even though I grew up in the church, I didn't know to much about Christianity, so I cobbled together whatever information I remembered.

Now I feel like I was deceiving my assistant minister and friend before I was saved. That makes me further doubt my salvation. I have done this sort of thing my entire life.

Have I lied to my friends and family? Am I un-saved or a fraud?

Sometimes when you have been lost and then get into the company of good Christians you simply have a longing to know what they know, walk were they walk and become a better person all together. I think that you were simply reaching to be a part of what you were already drawn to.

I believe that once we are saved we are His and I believe it was Paul who said "I am convinced nothing can seperate us from God's love." We are all guilty of hearing things and then quoting them. That doesn't mean that you are decieving someone. It simply means that you learned something and are passing it along.

I would chalk this up to OCD and remember that God loves you very much. We know that "God looks at the heart". He knows we are imperfect and He loves us anyway. That's the beauty of His grace!

If you are worried about being truly saved get on your knees and ask God for his understanding. Now take note that some people have religious OCD where they worry daily if they are saved or not. It is normal to doubt now and then but doubting on a constant basis can mean that you have some OCD stuff going on.

I would call my doctor and let them know you're having some trouble lately and see if they can get you on a good medication or in with a good therapist who can help you work past this.

Ok so after some soul searching, I think I have an explanation.

When I quote like this to other people, it is because I agree with the quote and the opinion to an extent.

EX. When I see some information on TV regarding a position I know about and care about, I may quote them verbatim because I agree with that position.

Granted, I have also used this same style to unknowingly lie to people, but I would like to think that I was at least telling the truth in church.

Sometimes I wish that the world was just black and white so that I could get on the right side, but I can see now that the world is shades of gray.

...AND NO, I DIDN'T QUOTE THAT LAST LINE FROM SOMEWHERE, I CAN COME UP WITH ORIGINAL MATERIAL.
